Flavor makes me think of a dark bread, with a hint of a Flaming Homer’s secret ingredient. Strong enough to feel it warm the throat. Interesting brew. Does go well with cheese. robinvboyer (1429), Sturgeon Falls, Ontario, Canada

Mouthfeel is kinda thin.....caramel with winey raisin taste. good, but not great. Kinz (2205), Glen Allen, Virginia, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Dec 3, 2006 Thanks to Indra for this one! Neat stuff here. Pours a very dark amber, little head fades away entirely. Aroma initially strongly of apples, as it warms, a soft warm caramel note emerges. Flavor is initially that of fresh green apple peel. As it warms up, caramel and toffee emerge, along with a bit of a woodsy note. An English beer for those who like Belgians. Nice stuff. tomthompson89 (1479), Toronto, Ontario, Canada

I liked it. Amazing burgundy-reddish hue. The woody notes were not really pronounced for me. MrManning (1648), London, Ontario, Canada
| 3.7 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Dec 2, 2006 LCBO advanced tasting- This pours a faintly carbonated copper liquid, with just a petit amount of beige dusting. Nice malt based aroma(toasty, roasted malts, bready) with woody, nutty, burnt sugars. Flavours are a wonderfully balanced interpretation of the aromas. Lots of vanilla/wood, with sweet nutty malts, toasty, with a smidge of the ABV shining through. Very warming, and dangerously drinkable. Finishes with a big malt bang, and a wonderful warmth. | 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 2/5 | 17/20 | Nov 16, 2006 Bottle. Purchased at The La Jolla, CA Bev Mo. The brew pours a blackish amber, though it seemed lighter when it came out of the bottle and settled to be much darker then expected. the head is light tan and has settled some but seems stable enough. The scent I could smell from a distance, up close it smells nicely malty and robust. The intial taste is hard to place its both strong and subtle and drinkable. There are strong notes of malt in this brew and a light slighty fruity aftertaste. This ale is certainly delicious and different from others I’ve had. Well worth a try, has a slightly wine like quality with further drinking.
