dark ale
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.
Bottles have been sterile filtered since May 2006.

Deep red-brown color beer with a white head that does not last much. Aroma includes caramel, roasted malt, wood and some light fruit notes. Flavor is sweet with some bitterness and alcohol reminders. Body is medium and carbonation is low. Dry, crispy and long end.

Caramel aroma, with strong wooden notes. Beer is clear, dark brown, with nice head. In taste it’s not that caramel as it is in aroma, but still a bit. Except that there are a wooden notes, a bit of bitterness. It’s very well carbonated, the mouth feel is really great. It’s a very good beer!

UPDATED: JUL 30, 2015 Deep brown color with firm head. Aroma of caramel, oak, roasted malts. Taste is the same with low carbonation and little bitterness. ok beer. Re-rate 30.7.2015: Pours dark brown haze colour with cremy light brown head. Carbontion is low. Aroma with mild notice of an alcohol, with hits of rhum, but prevails sweet notes of hazelnuts, honey, caramel and plums. Flavor is very similar: mild notes of an alcohol, with hints of rhum, hazelnut, cacao, vanilla, caramel and plums. Malt sweetness is high, hop bitterness is low. Body is soft/ sticky, carbonation low. Very proper beer, even for maturing.

Rather weak aroma of caramalts. Taste has a medium bitterness, balanced out by a raisin-like sweetness. Interesting marzipan aftertaste. Dry and medium bodied on the palate, slick carbonation.
