3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 martinrumsam (240) - BARNSTAPLE, Devon, ENGLAND - DEC 31, 2011
pours a deep deep brown , almost black with a full beige head soem of which lingers . fruity hoppy malty slight cinder toffee aroma . taste is not as sweet as aroma suggests - a nice hoppy bitterish balance to the rich sweeter flavours . some alcohol comes through at the end but no way excessive . not a heavy cloying dark beer - surprisingly quite quaffable and at 6% more than one could be dealt with in one session . one of the better english beers of this style around
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 ElDesmadre (476) - Mikołów, POLAND - DEC 22, 2011
Bottle. Dark brown with a small head. Rich aroma of chocolate cake with plums and rheum, forest fruit and vinous, almost brandy-like elements, nuts, wood and even a small bit of coffee. Full body and sweet taste from beginning till the end when a light bitterness comes in. The creamy, milky mouthfeel goes well with the heavyness of this beer, making it very drinkable. The taste itself is highly aromatic, fruity-chocolate-roasted-nutty-woody with a subtle aftertaste of oak and nuts. A very special brew.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Kurki (15) - FINLAND - DEC 10, 2011
I concur with TheBeerLover’s review, definitely a beer to be enjoyed on its own without food - because it is a meal unto itself.

Bottle 50 cl, Alko Arkadia. Pours clear deep copper mahogany with a great creamy light brown head leaving nice lace. Aroma is caramel, sweet, vinous, oak, dark fruits, a bit acidy and fruity. Flavor is vinous, fruity, molassis, roasted malts, barrel, bitter and sweet but yet dryish. Finishes bitter and malty with a nice fruity touch.
3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 reebtogi (2197) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 31, 2011
500ml bottle poured a deep brown color with some red highlights when held to a source of light. There was a nice rich off-white head which left plenty of fine lacing. Aroma is of roasted malts and wood with a hint of chocolate and yeast. Taste is roasted malty and some fruit sweetness and a hint of chocolate with a woodiness and a light hoppy bitter finish. This is a very nice ale to sip on a cool autumn eve.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 tonycaviar (76) - HUNGARY - OCT 29, 2011
2.2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20 adnielsen (3762) - Fort Collins, Colorado, USA - OCT 28, 2011
Bottle @ home. Clear bottle. Slightly cloudy, brown appearance with a small tan head. Buttery, toffee, light wood in the nose. Butter, roasty caramel, burnt woody flavor. This must be better in England because this bottle is tasting nasty.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 spracklinc (8) - Montana, USA - OCT 14, 2011 does not count
wasn’t sure of what to expect from this one, but was pleasantly surprised, and wish I’d bought more than one bottle. Nice dark brown color. Smells slightly fruity and of homemade caramel. Taste is much the same. The sweet fruitiness made me think that it was much stronger than it was. A beer I would certainly partake in again.
