Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Poured from the bottle at The White Horse on Parsons Green (London), a dark ruby red with no head. A strong rich coffee aroma. The mouthfeel is a little syrupy, but enough carbonation to contrast. Roasted caramal is the dominant flavour, with the presense of the alcohol also quite strong.

From a 1pt. shaped long narrow neck brown bottle with a info about the ale on the front label and a blurb on the back label. Made a good appearance, poured a opaque ruby hued brown with a foamy tan head that settled into a thin bubbly lacing, decent carbonation. Had a dried dark fruit and oak woodiness aroma, with a toasted caramel maltiness in the background. A semi-creamy, smooth, but textured full-ish medium bodied mouth feel, good drinkability. Raisin dried fruitiness and a oak barrel woodiness in the flavor, a mellow spicy, resiny hop bitterness and a dry fruity and lightly toasted grainy, malty finish with a slight alcohol burn in the palate. A very nice Olde Ale, tasty and very drinkable, worth seeking out.

Superb dark brown body, though not black in color. The aroma is a bit thin, though very complex. Some fruits, malts, hops and caramel all combine for a great mix. Very nice body, caramel, light hop accents with some minimal alcohol burn in the end.

(bottle - 1 pt) Murky ruby pour with little carbonation but leaves a very thin film of tan head on the top of the beer. Aroma is malty and roasty with slight hints of caramel, toffee and dark fruits. Taste is a mixture of brandy, wine, malts, plums, raisins and some bitter flavors as the beer moves to the back of your mouth. A whole lot going on in this beer. I was able to taste all the different stages of it. Maybe it sat too long?

Iron aroma overpowers any malt in the nose. The taste is also very metallic. Long lingering aftertaste finally reveals the malt presence with oaky vanilla and some red fruit flavors. Somewhat vinous, with a hint of oxidation like old wet cardboard. Deep, inviting ruby color with an off white thin head. Mouthfeel is pretty light for the style, due to high carbonation. much better as it warms, I’d drink this at nearly room temperature (about 60 degrees F)

Deep ruby red color, fruity aroma. Taste is drier than expected from the aroma, somewhat bitter with metallic notes. Vinous character.
