Commercial Description:
Bottle: Pasteurised.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.

Pours medium-dark brown with a tall tan head that has good retention. Aroma is grainy malt, apple, caramel, straw, a little toffee, a hint of walnut, sweet earth, maybe some wood notes. Flavor is grainy malt, caramel, earth, wood, dried leaves, dates, dark fruit, sweet nuts and lots of herbal notes. Finish is herbal, woody, and slightly bitter with lots of wood notes. Body is thin with a creamy feel up front and a slick but dry finish. Really a nice beer with lots of quality but not enough body to really carry it.

Brownish with huge head. Tastes of caramel and nuts. Strong nose. A bit of a sherry taste. Worth drinking again.

Bottle. Big head. Nice garnet highlights. Has the slight fruity smell you would expect from an English Ale. The taste has complexity and the hints of caramel entice you.

Sweet caramelly malts on the nose with some vanilla and honey, light spicy hop aromas. Pours caramel amber with a dense off white head. Sweet caramelly malts dominate with traces of vanilla and oak. Some bready malt notes with spicy hops. Not bad.

16oz bottle. Thanks to Kevin for supplying this one. Pours a reddish brown with a small beige head. Nose is suprising. Complex and nutty with hints of hazelnut and fruit. Taste is similar to the Belhaven Wee Heavy but not as heavy. Cherry, tons and tons of caramel, some chocolate and a little tartness maybe from the cherries. This is really quite great.

Probably the best beer brewed by Green King by far, Pours a dark choc with tan head, Has a hint of iron, and sherry on the nose and palate with a slight sourness that balances the sweetness from the malts

Amber color with thin white head. Aroma of caramel and coffee with milk. Flavor of malt with some smoke and light coffee. Decent enough.
