Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
dark ale
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.
Bottles have been sterile filtered since May 2006.

Bought in Špar (for 1.99 euros). It has the smell of sour malt, caramel and some woodiness. Pours a clear burgundy with a small tan head. Good lacing. Its taste is dry up front, with aromas of fruits, caramel, licorice, touch of coffee, butterscotch and a little hop bitterness in the end. Overall a nice old dark ale for chilly evenings.

Trying the Strong Suffolk Dark Ale version. Clear deep rubby color with medium almond foam. Aromas mainly of malt that then extends to aged and very lightly boozy aromas, has hints of raisins, bread, vanila and quite sweet too. Palate, medium body, not too heavy as imagened, with mouth coating texture leaving aged caramel finish. Taste is more on sweet side, of caramel and malt in a way reminding of a bitter. Overall, nice beer, smells really nice, tastes okay, could be better but not too bad.

Sterile filtered since 2006 - cool. Darker reddish brown color, smaller head, good lace/retention. Aroma is Madeira, caramel, light oak, wood, English yeast. Medium/light body, lightly sweet. The aroma had me excited but it went downhill after that.

Bottle 33cl. Poured into a half pint glass. Clear deep amber brown, small frothy beige head, mostly diminishing, minimal lacing; aroma roasted malts, dark fruits, caramel, fruit syrup; taste medium to light heavy sweet, and slightly bitter, malty, fruity, toffee, woody, with long duration, sweetbitter finish, fruity and spicy notes; medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation; very nice.

Chestnut brown, clear. Small ring of head in glass. Aroma is reminiscent of fruitcake. Medium body. Surprisingly lively for an aged beer---lots of prickliness on the finish, along with some slate. Medium sweet.

clear chestnut red/brown with no head. Oaky aroma. Flavor quite distinct -- bitter without any coffee or chocolate notes, strong flavor of the oak.

Dark ruby with nice head. Boozy cherry and wood barrel aroma. Woody ale with big malts kinda roasted and even slightly chocolatey. Filling and great with aged cheese as the label suggests.
