COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Bottle: Filtered.
Marketed in the United States as Olde Suffolk.
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.
Bottles have been sterile filtered since May 2006.

Let it warm up. What might have once been acrid roast has faded into a delicate roast surrounding rich toffee. A beautifully rounded strong ale. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Loose tan head with no retention. Mahogany body. Attractive, but knocked down from a 4/5 in appearance because it lacks head retention. Nose is vinous fruit, red fruit, alcohol, raisins, aniseed, black malt, port wine, licorice, kola nut, oak, cherries, some roasted malt, plum, red wine, malt vinegar, banana, toffee. Sweetish with some alkaline notes. Very dry finish. Good carbonation. Soft mouthfeel. Full bodied. Probably the best thing from the Greene King stable.

Pint bottle. Pours a dark brown color with ruby highlights with a small off-white head that soon dissipates. The aroma is all caramel. The taste is nutty with abundant caramel and toffee. The palate was thinner than I prefer and the carbonation was soft. Finish was short and weak with a bit of a metallic aftertaste. Overall: Decent--Strengths outweighed flaws.

przyjemny owocowy zapach - da się wyczuć wiśnie, śliwki i lekkie toffi. kolor rubinowy, piana bardzo słaba i szybko znika. w smaku pełne, wyraźny karmel, lekka kawa, słodowe, do tego lekko kwaśne. dobra goryczka, lekko alkoholowa, dębowa, długo pozostaje w ustach.

slightly unique smell that is hard to place and I wish it was stronger because it’s good! Taste is very malty and smooth... tastes sophisticated if one can say that. Slightly sweet and deep bodied. If aroma was a little stronger this would be a 4!

Pours a dark brown color covered with a nice tan head and a decent retention. The malty aroma is complemented by some sweet fruits and spices. The taste is nicely bittery, you can also taste some nice spices, although can’t say which. Easily drinkable and smooth.

Bottle, 50cl. Pours rubin-red colour, that turns gradually darker and more black as it settles in the glass. Small, beige head. Sweetish, intense caramel and malty aroma. Spicey hobs, hints of liquorice, dark ripe fruits and yeast. Soft carbonation and smooth mouth-feel, with flavour similar to the nose. Long balanced finish - mostly sweet, with subtle bitterness as well. Milky, creamy texture. Medium-light full bodied.

Nose is treacle, brown sugar, caramel, touch of smoke some dark fruit. Taste is dark fruits, brown sugar, slight licorice, thick caramel, smoke, some grain. Mouthfeel is thick. In all honesty I bought this to be rude about it, GK are such an awful brewer, but I am very surprised, this is a genuinely good beer.

Good classic English ale. Surprising carbonation, a little too much for me detracting from the body and drying out the flavor. Flavors are there, oak, caramel, fruity, but balance is a little sweet. OK, but won’t seek this out.
