3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 Silvan7 (154) - Samarate, ITALY - JUN 11, 2013
Bottle @ Centoundici.

2013.05.31 - Greene King Olde Suffolk - bottle in pint glass. No vintage indicated on bottle.
Aroma: a toffee-ish or caramel aroma and some dark fruits.
Appearance: Pours around 24 on SRM scale. Deep caramel tan with a bit if redness or mahogany. Head was off white or light tan and pretty active and about 2 fingers until it dissipated to light foamy cap and ring, some lacing.
Taste: If you’ve had Old Craft Hen it’s quite similar which I guess is down to both being blends using Old 5X. Both are yummy. I think I’d be interested in trying Old 5X on its own. I think I’d give the nod to Old Crafty Hen if only for price and availability but both are quite good.
Palate/Mouthfeel: pretty light, a bit watery. Not a lot of carbonation once the head dies down.
Overall: repeat purchase worthy for sure but Old Crafty Hen may be easier to find and cheaper and is pretty similar.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Scopey (3380) - Croydon, Greater London, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2013
Bottle at The Anderson. It pours deep ruby-brown with a small off-white head. The nose is wood, earth, dried fruit, fruit cake, brown sugar, candied peel and some spice. The taste is wood, toffee, earth, leather, light spice, sherry, faint sourness, fruit cake, plum and a touch of alcohol warmth with a bitter-sweet finish. Medium body and fairly low carbonation. Good depth of flavour and well-balanced. Impressed to see that GK can actually make something of this calibre. Bravo.
