dark ale
A blend of two ales: Old 5X , which is brewed to the maximum strength possible (around 12% abv) and left to mature in 100-barrel oak vats for a minimum of two years, and BPA, a dark, full-bodied freshly brewed beer which is added just before bottling. The result is a unique beer - strong (6% abv), dark, fruity, oaky and very, very special.
Bottles have been sterile filtered since May 2006.

A dark amber almost brown beer with a fine head. The aroma is sweet and fruity wiht hints of honey. The flavor is strong, sweet and spicy wiht hints of honey and the alcohol content. It is a very filling beer ending wiht a nice dryness.

UPDATED: SEP 16, 2006 Vintage Ale 2000 (2ys old)
Dark amber color, turning to brown; small and non persistent head. Light aroma; some malt and roasted malt, light hop; lightly fruity (red apples). Body weaker than expected, pretty dry; roasted malt and caramel, bitterness without interesting hop aroma. Some metallic character. Finishes with some liquorice, roasted malt and bitterness. Too much interest for this beer, the expectations are not met. [5-3-6-3-12]

Just caramel, a bit fruity, I’m still convinced that the bottled version is not as interesting as the cask.

Cask Conditioned
Much better than the bottled version, and to this one the rate applies.
Drk ruby color. Malt nose, vinous; light but original. Full body, quite original, with malt, caramel, hop and something more that I can’t reach... Pretty sweet; the bitterness is coming out slowly, but lasts for long. The bottled version should be banned!
