Contract brewed from 2002 - August 2005 at Ridleys.
Greene King XX Mild is a fine, dark, mild ale with a distinctive taste and delicate aroma. It draws its characteristics from a special blend of black and crystal malts to give a burnt, roasted flavour while the delicate hint of hops in the nose comes from the Northdown variety.

Deep chestnut with a tan head. Quite sweet with strong toffee notes. Some fruitiness too, but this is very thin and not entirely pleasant.

On cask at the Haymarket. Appearance - chestnut with a copper tinge and a decent head. Nose - delicate nuts and toffee. Taste - mostly caramel perhaps some nuts again so verging on praline. Palate - light to medium bodied with soft round sweet texture and a reasonably balanced finish. A bit thin in parts though. Overall - solid and quite enjoyable.

Cask at Free Press, Cambridge. Pours clear, red-brown with a frothy, off-white head. Faint dark, bready malts in the aroma. Light sweet flavor with notes of doughy brown bread, ripe berries and hints of brown sugar. Light of body and fine of carbonation. Sweet finish with more sugary brown bread, faint toffee, ripe berries, plums. Simple and one-dimensional, but itís a tolerable mild.
