Bottle. The beer is near black with a thin tan head and no lace. The aroma offers chocolate, malt, roast. A bit of cocoa in the flavor with a slightly bitter finish. Pretty smooth on the palate. Thin body on this porter.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Itís rare to find a porter below 5% ABV these days. Though itís also rare to find a traditional, to-spec porter for that matter. Greenport Harbor Black Duck Porter is a pretty standard, no frills porter at only 4.7%. Thatís actually not an easy brew to make so Iím impressed even though the beer is just plain good.
I poured a 12oz bottle into a flared snifter. There was no freshness date and it cost $3.05 ($0.25 per ounce).
Appearance: Dark brown body with light brown highlights. Pours to a two-finger, tan, foamy head which retains pretty well but doesnít leave a lot of lacing.
Smell: A lightly sweet malty aroma with a hint of milk chocolate and roasted malt. Not too intense, but nice.
Taste: When I think of a no frills porter, this is exactly what comes to mind. Thatís not to say this beer doesnít taste good Ė it does Ė just that it opts for normalcy over distinctiveness. Itís quite sweet right from the get-go: some dark malty flavors akin to that of a brown ale. Minor notes of toffee and milk chocolate up front with some dry roasty bitterness on the finish. I also detect a slight tanginess, which isnít uncommon. Iím not sure if thatís intentional or if this bottle is a little old. I will say all the flavors are in the right place in the right amount here, so this is an enjoyable brew even if it doesnít knock my socks off.
Drinkability: Greenport Harbor Black Duck Porter also has the mouthfeel I associate with a traditional porter. Itís not exactly velvety, though itís certainly soft and smooth with low carbonation (not crisp at all). Nor is it sticky or cloying. Thatís not surprising considering the beer is only 4.7% ABV. It does have quite a lot of flavor for such a light body. Might not be a bad beer to session in the colder months.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Got in a BIF from beerloserLI. 12 ounce bottle into pint glass, no bottle dating. Pours fairly crystal clear very dark brown color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, dark bread, light coffee, herbal, light dark fruit, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity/earthy yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, dark bread, light coffee, herbal, light dark fruit, and yeast/roasted earthiness. Light herbal/roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, cocoa, caramel, toast, dark bread, light coffee, herbal, light dark fruit, and yeast/roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic robustness, balance, and complexity of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity/earthy yeast flavors; with a great roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Light-medium carbonation and medium body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy, and slightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with zero warming present after the finish as expected of 4.7%. Overall this is an awesome English porter style. All around great robustness, complexity, and balance of dark/roast/bready malt, earthy hops, and light fruity/earthy yeast flavors; and very smooth and easy to drink. A highly enjoyable offering.

Roasted malt and mild sweet lactose like aroma. Taste is a smooth roasted malt Porter with a slight sweet finish. Has a bit of a bitter cocoa like finish. Maybe a bit light palate. Overall pretty nice but nothing spectacular.

This beer has a light toastiness that really makes it stand out in flavor and mouth feel. Not the best I've ever had but pretty good.
