COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
From the brewer: Brewing a balanced beer is always a top priority when it comes time for recipe formulation at Greenport Harbor Brewing Co. While Other Side IPA is hop forward as it should be, with nearly 3 pounds of hops per barrel - it also achieves balance. A blend of North American pale, light munich, light crystal and Carapils malts provide a light, malty backbone as foundation for multiple additions of Cascade, Centennial, Chinook and Warrior hops. Hoppy, yet balanced - the sixth brew of our Project Hoppiness series is a nod to the IPAs we love from the other side of the country. Project Hoppiness is GHBC’s project to explore the world of humulus lupulus, the common hop. An ever changing variety of hop forward ales will excite your taste buds with new experiences, none quite like the last. Bringing forth happiness through hoppiness.

Growler from Big Z. Pours a hazy orange with a small white head. Aroma of hop oils, tons of grassy hops (pot hops), tropical fruits and citrus. Flavor of tons of rich hoppy goodness and some citrusy hops as well. Very West Coast IPA and a good one at that. 8/4/8/4/16 [4.0/5]

A - Served a clear copper orange color with a finger of frothy white head. The head fades down slowly leaving behind some good lace. S - Aroma is full of pine hops with some light citrus hops, caramel malts, and a bit of bready malt. T - Start off with lots of pine and grassy hop flavor with some bitterness. Through the middle some sweet caramel malt comes through with some stronger bitterness. The finish is a mix of caramel and bready malts with some grassy hop and some strong bitterness. M - Medium-plus bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth with a dry and bitter finish. D - Very drinkable. Nice big bitterness, almost a touch too much. Could have used a touch more malt to balance the big hop profile.

On tap. Pours with a clear orange hued body with a fully retentive white head. Good lace. Aromas are hoppy, tangerine, citrus, grassy, pineapple, mango and tropical fruit. Mildly dank. Flavors are citrusy, spicy, grassy, resin, orange and lightly dank. East Coast style with some high dextrin sweetness. Good balance, medium alcohol content. Clean finish with a medium bitterness and alcohol. Good and mildly warming. Decent.

Growler filled at Big Z. Pours a lightly hazed amber with a moderate off-white head that lasted through the first quarter of the glass and left light lace. Pleasant aroma of grapefruit with some notes of pine as well. The flavor is abrasively hopped with sharp bitterness overwashing a mild malt backbone. Lots of grapefruit pith. A bit too aggressive for me.

Stumbled across this during Greenport’s Maritime Festival. Pours a clear copper with a decent, off-white head that quickly dissipates. Smells sharply of grapefruit and a tad cat-pissy (but not in a bad way). Sharp, bracing and bitter married to a sweetness that comes through more in the finish. A decent example of brash, West Coast hopping from an East Coast brewer. Would buy TONS if more available. (Growler fill from tasting room at brewery).
