2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 8/20
This one is an odd duck... the carbonation is strong, creating a thick, puffy, and long lasting head. The aroma is a bit of apple, dust, and some sour. The taste almost just a carbonated cider with a soapy feel. It seems to be more of a gimmick with all of the "Does not contain" items printed on the label.

2.1 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Poured with a strange orangeish green type body. Slightly off white head. The aroma is bologna with some light pears and hints of cinnamon. The taste is strong oranges with some slight caramel notes. Not too bad but far from any tripel I have tried.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Bottle. Head is initially small, fizzy, off-white, fully diminishing. Body is hazy medium yellow, bottle conditioned. Aroma is lightly malty (grain), trace hops (flowers), with notes of apple, band-aid, hint of nutmeg. Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Medium body, watery texture, fizzy carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Youíre pulling my leg that this isnít a failed cider. Lots of apple and even some plastic phenols, and a fairly tart flavor. Itís not really that bad as a beverage, like...as a cider. But it says "tripel blonde beer" on the label...wha??? At least the Discovery pretty much resembled beer, this is...not really close at all.

1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
Poured from bottle. Smells like that sparking cider you give kids on new years eve. Unfortunately, tastes similar to it as well. Fizzy feel.odd vegetable combo flavor to it. A little lactose and mustard would probably improve this stuff. Off color and strange looking head makes me wonder if this is beer at all. Finished in the shrubs where I poured it. What a shame!

3.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2007 500 ml. bottle from Nugget (Davis, CA). Aroma is clean, light stone fruits. Color is slightly hazy orange tinged gold. The white head stayed for awhile, and left some slight lace. Something of a perfume aroma as the glass (MJ tasting glass) approaches the lips. Thin to medium bodied with coarse, but creamy, carbonation. The flavor is indeed fruity. It has that tripel alcohol flavor impact. Thereís some heat. It has light malt sweetness (without barley!), but thatís not dominant. The finish is lightly hot, pretty dry, and has fruit battling with bitter. The fruit could be a tad grapey, or a tad appley, or a tad of some light stone fruit. Iíd say this is strikingly different, but so many of the De Proefbrouwerij ales are. It is what it is, and well into the bottle it is turning applish. Je ne regrette rien. For the moment, anyway.

1.2 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 3/20
1/2 litre bottle. Poured looking like an American lager ... golden, clearn, hardly carbonated, with a big poofy, but quickly surrendering head. The aroma is odd -- funky and sour. The flavor is even worse ... flat and mushy, like warm, poorly mixed fruit punch of something. This is an experiment gone wrong. (#3152, 10/22/2007)

1.8 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Straw color with a wispy, thin bubbled white head. Aromas of white grape juice, maple sap along with other simple juice and sugar scents. Light cider flavors mix with strong alcohol undertones. May to much alcohol and not enough depth in this one to make it enjoyable. A grape and apple malt liquor. Just canít continue.

1.6 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 6/20
Honestly, the first whiff of this gluten-free Tripel smelled like airplane glue, and although the description says it contains neither milk nor sesame seeds, it says nothing about that. After the glue clears, is has an aroma of old ladiesí perfume and unripe apples. Tastes better. Has to! Thereís some mushy canned fruits, the can top, alcohol, soap, and old honey. Iím glad I can drink regular beers. Oh - Looks fine, clear gold with a spongey head, but looks certainly arenít everything.
