mgermani (621), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Apr 14, 2008 Pours a lovely golden yellow with a great head & lacing. Aroma of faint apples - nothing malty or hoppy going on here. Tastes like poorly-made apple cider. Not the slightest bit reminiscent of an abbey tripel. Overcarbonated. Yuck.
hopscotch (4588), Vero Beach, Florida, USA Oct 2, 2008 Bottle... Hazy light golden ale with a small, wispy, white head. The aroma is very restrained. Sake, fuzzy fruit and ethanol are the only traces I can pull from the glass. Medium-bodied, lightly creamy and very effervescent. The flavor is a fruity, moderately bitter marriage of Perry and floral hops. Crisp, tangy, fruity finish. DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Sep 30, 2008 Bottle. Pours hazy gold with 3-finger fizzy white head. Nose is pear, apple, yeast. Tastes fizzy dry and champagny, with mild metallic notes, plus florals, slight berry, and pear. Tastes carbonated, slightly metallic, with slight berry and pear flavors. ansermadide (236), Kyle, Texas, USA Sep 16, 2008 (.5l bottle at home with weeAnaP on September 15, 2008) Pours a semi-cloudy amber-orange color with barely noticeable carbonation (which you can really only notice as it reaches the surface). Quest has the same fermented aroma as Greens Endeavor, but noticeably more sweet and, well, Tripel. Its aroma has a strength that, in a way, reminds me of saki - I am assuming that is the rice. It hits your mouth with a hard and pungent and sweet punch. Its flavor is like saki as well, but a little more tame. It is very nice on the palate. Something very pleasant follows up my nose... a very enjoyable drink. Different, but delicious. I wanted more, and from reading the other ratings it looks as if I am alone here. I am surprised its average score is only 2.09. I admit, it is not for the traditional beer drinker. Well... this is what happens when you take barley and gluten out of the mix. Does not mean it is not enjoyable. robforbes (752), Bremerton, Washington, USA Sep 16, 2008 pours a clear orange-yellow with a large egg-shell head, lively carbonation, good lacing.
smell is sour, berry, some malt, alcohol.
taste is sour and tart, alcohol, pear, malt, bubble gum, end is very sour and somewhat dry, aftertaste is strange and leaves a weird coating in the mouth.
overall looks are deceiving, stay away from this one unless you are just trying to increase your rating numbers. DuffMan (1962), Calgary, Alberta, Canada Sep 7, 2008 Once again, I find pity in my heart for those poor bastards who can’t drink a regular beer without getting sick. They are left with honest but badly flawed attempts to make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear in the area of fine craft beer. This represents yet another failure. It looks okay-- deep golden with a light frothy foam cap that actually drapes lace around the top of the glass. The aroma is offputting, with green apples, plastic, and raw almonds combining with harsh hot alcohol. The palate is a little less offensive, sugary fruity-sweet (white grape juice) with warming alcohol and chemical bitterness in the finish. Oddly enough, this becomes easier to drink as it comes up in temperature, however this also may be due to numbing of the palate as time passes.
