Tap, GBBF 2005. Hazy straw gold, minimal condition. Low sweet pear fruitiness in the nose and mouth, some alcohol in the finish.

Barrel GBBF 2005: Too alcoholic and thin. That combination is most unfortunate. Maybe the apples are from a bad year.

From the barrel at GBBF, August 2005. Some confusion here. Gregg’s Pit makes a number of single varietal and mixed variety (the varieties are crushed together, not blended after fermentation) perries. What they produce and release varies from year to year. Some perries are blended after fermentation to make generic Dry, Medium Dry and Medium Perry. At least I think that’s the way it works. The programme said there would be Thorn Dry and generic Medium available. However, the labels at the festival (hand-written by festival staff, not marked on the barrels themselves) were for Thorn Dry and Moorcroft Dry. However, a look at the Greggs Pit (which is itself a variety of cider apple btw) website shows that the Moorcoft perry is medium not dry, so I believe the "Moorcroft Dry" was, in fact, a mis-label (not unknown at festivals). Having cleared that up, the perry itself is soft an fresh with bags of juicy pear fruit, if a little short of funky farmhouse character. Pleasant and easy drinking.
