Double has undergone two fermentations, which gives this ale a chocolatey, toffee taste with a warming brandy-like finish.

Deep brown colour with quick fading head. Taste is quite thin, lacks body. Flavour is very sweet with little malt or hop coming through. More complexity on aftertaste with some caramel and floral notes followed by a warming alcohol feeling.

Bottled: Pours a deep brown with a ruby hue. The large frothy tan head fades to a stable one-finger size. The aroma is extremely metallic, with hints of caramel and roast. Not too appealing. Sweet flavor, with some root beer characteristics (sassafras). It’s also extremely metallic with a strange, roasty bitterness. Maybe I had a bad bottle, or a mis-treated bottle, but this Dubbel wasn’t enjoyable at all.

Draught at Oliver Twist, Stockholm. Clear deep ruby, majestic cloud-like head. Fruity nose with dried plums and lemon. Sweet and medium bodied with lots of perfumy soap and an unusual estery apricot flavour. Some soothing caramel mixes with dextrose. Drying finish with low bitterness. Despite all flavour it feels mild. Complex, but with some drawbacks.
