3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Cloudy red brown, with a medium but long lasting head that laced well. Aroma of sweet toffee and caramel malt, but surprisingly the flavour is only slightly, and pleasantly sweet. Medium to full bodied, it’s a nice beer and quite drinkable, but not complex enough to rate too high.

Red/brown, small head. Fruity toffee aroma that also brings some cinnamon. Toffee in flavor as well, some fruit and some honey. Mild finish.

3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
33cl bottle. Bottle date: 14-09-05 Sixpack purchased at Broudy’s, Orange Park Florida for $10.99 Foamy gusher on the open. After that, the beer poured nicely with a small but persistent tan head that laced beautifully. Aroma was musty malt and yeast, odd but not unpleasant. Flavor was very good, malty and sweet with a slight tartness and tingle on the tongue from the carbonation. Sweet dark fruits are predominant but not overpowering. A little bit of bitterness in the finish. Not spectacular, and not overly complex, but very nice and flavorful. Enjoyable and highly drinkable.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
On tap. Very dark brown ruby tinted beer. Sweet malty aroma, cherry, honey, caramel, and a yeasty spiciness. Very fruity (plums, cherries, dates). Flavour is also sweet and full of dark fruit. Brown sugar, malted milk, and a bit of chocolate and toast.

Very dark amber, almost black with light tan foamy head. Dark bready aroma, with subtle fruit nuances. Tastes of plums, with nuttiness, and a vinous quality. Toasted malt and an earthy taste. Rich and heavy on the palate. Finish is moderately sweet and slightly bitter.

3.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Damn gusher. 11.2 oz bottle. 08-01-05 is the date on the bottle, must be a best by date since that is a date in the future. Served at 51° in my Duvel tulip. Pours reddish brown with a thick khaki head. Lacing is apparent right off the bat. Strong smell while sitting in the glass. When I get closer, the aroma is raisins, plums, turbino sugar and malty. There is also seems to be a bit of sourness. The taste is malty, but the flavors you get from the aroma seem to be muted. There is a sourness? that seems to be washing away the large, upfront flavor. The finish is soapy?, dull, with some residual bitterness. There seems to be a yeasty flavor, as well. It is possible that the hops or alcohol (both of which seem to have been kept in check) have robbed this beer of it’s flavor, but I am not sure. The body, especially up-front, is full and substantial feeling. Now that I am finishing the beer, I don’t find any sediment in the bottle or glass, could it be this Belgian Dubbel is not bottle conditioned?

4.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: JUN 27, 2006 I have heard of this one but never seen it in PA before. Sampled this one on draft at D’s Six Packs & Dogz in Pittsburgh. It poured a dark brown color with a medium sized tan head. The aroma was malty with a light fruit undertone and a lightly sour almost vinegary element. The flavor was huge with ripe fruits - almost raspberry - and sour dark malts. There is a hint of chocolate underneath. A sour tangy malty finish lingers. I really enjoyed this one.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft - Poured a brownish red with a full head. Great hoppy aroma. Fairly sweet and bitter. One of the best common Begian doubles.
