2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Pours a deep burgundy brown with a creamy, beige head that diminishes leaving wispy lace in its wake. Raisins, toffee and dry red wine all come out in the aroma. Medium-bodied and creamy with a metallic and lightly astringent finish. Falling short of the nose, the flavor is of raisin and light toffee with a fruity, astringent finish. This bottle might have been oxidized a bit as it has a hint of dry cardboard and odd fruity notes that seem slightly out of place. The brewers website provides no clue as to the age of the bottle (Code: 1306NL1645B). So, I guess I’ll just have to re-rate this one at a later date, but given how unimpressed I was with this bottle, it’ll probably be quite some time before I revisit this beer.

Nose of brown sugar, rainsins, dark rum. A soft nuttiness and slight metallic finish. Nothing too special but nothing too crappy either. A good middle of the road dubbel.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Solstice party in Canyon, CA. Deep brown with medium head. Scent of Thompson raisins. Taste is sweet and sour, but shallow and not long lasting. No yeastiness whatsoever. I liked it less and less as I drank the glass.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottled. A red/brown beer with a medium sized and fast disappearing light brown head. The aroma is quite malty with notes of fruits and a light toastiness. But is too weak. Sweet flavours with fruity notes and low bitterness. Medium bodied, but feels light for its size. Lively carbonated and the aftertaste is not so long. It lacks something, but after all is a respectable beer.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
33cl botte. This is one very nice looking beer. It pours a deep ruby colour with a fantasticly fluffy white head that manages to hang about for quite some time. The aromas are rather predictable, but let this not take anything away from it. They’re pleasantly sweet and fruity, rather plummy with notes of caramelised sugar. The flavours aren’t terribly complex but it’s nicely sweet with plenty of caramel and chocolate on offer. A dry finish with a touch of bitterness. Rather drinkable, if perhaps a touch on the sweet side.

Bottled from AH. Dark amber color, rich beige head. Lots of yeast and some caramel and fruits. Very boring

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Poured out of bottle dark reddish brown with a small, light tan foam head that didn’t stay long. Aromas of yeast and caramel. The taste starts sweet with caramel and toffee, leading to a yeasty dough flavor and ending in a slight soy sauce like spiciness. The only bitterness seems to come from the yeast, no hop presences detected. The overall feel of this beer is smooth all the way through with a mild mouth and throat warming from the alcohol. Nice beer all around.

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Served in its own Grimbergen glass, it pours a red to brown colour, brown head that doesn’t hold for too long, and leaves some lace.
Aroma of caramel, fruits, plums and some chocolate, not too complex.
Lighter body than one can expect, and taste of cherries, plums and fruit.
Another average Grimbergen made for the masses and far from the best beers of the style. Or for that matter, of any style Grimbergen makes.

On draft at Atwood’s Tavern in Cambridge, MA.
Chocolate brown pour with a thick head. Strong lacing that clung to the glass. Aroma was very weak. I got some malty notes, a bit of fruit, but not much else. Somewhat disappointing. Flavor was much better - light roasted flavor with some sweet maltiness balanced in. Good brew, but I had higher expectations.
