Double has undergone two fermentations, which gives this ale a chocolatey, toffee taste with a warming brandy-like finish.

Chimay Red and Grimbergen dubbel are the best Belgium dubbel. Great examples of the style. Grimbergen has so many rich layered flavors. A dark red brown soup of raisin and plum flavors. Sweeten with a touch of molasses. This malt forward is a rich flavor giant and priced well below Chimay Red and way better then Ommengang Abbey Ale or New Belgium Abbey. The american version of the dubbel are so one bland.

L: -pours a clear ruby with a medium to big, frothy, beige head -high carbonation visible S: -grainy,sour cherries, caramel, brown sugar, orange zest T: -plums,raisins,dates,slight caramel, cherries, candi sugar, herbs F: -light to medium body -medium carbonation -faint alcohol warming O: Compared to other Dubbels there is no real Belgian Yeast character to this. This reminded me more of an english strong ale than a Belgian Dubbel. Overall it’s very good though.

Thanks southbierbro!! Pours a dark orangish brown with a tan head. The smell is roasted malt, brown sugar, rich fruit, mild licorice. The taste is brown sugar, diluted molasses, roasted malt, dark fruit ending a bit dry. The body slight/medium, a bit sticky with over average carbonation. Overall a bit sweet and sticky with carbonation that is a bit too forceful.

In der Nase malzig, sehr karamellig. Setzt sich im Trunk fort, süß, süffig - dann im Abgang nochmal ein Schwung Karamell. Lecker.

Coarse stable foam with a little flavor of raisins and other dried fruits (some fig?). Delicate malty flavor of caramel aftertaste of raisin. Slightly tart fruit, which is difficult to define in details, interfere with its sweet malty flavor and gives nice contrast of fullness. It is a dubbel with a very fine balance of malt, which means that although it is malty and tastes a bit of sugar is its sweetness constantly kept by dried fruit and subtle hops. Towards the end you will also find a little dark chocolate. The carbonation is soft and gentle and retains its fine malt flavor for a long time. Carbonation also makes it easy to drink and enjoyment value in this dubbel is great.

0,33 l glass enjoyed in a pub in Wroclaw, Poland. Pours dark brown with nice foam. Aroma suggests sweet caramel, chocolate and malt. Taste is very much the same. Good aftertaste, nice mouth feel, but maybe a little too sweet. Medium body, nice lacing.
