3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 13/20
I’ve had this 750 sitting in the cellar since 1997. Aroma slightly spicy and a definite alcohol nose as well. Color is a dark amber bordering abrown. The head is decent with very tightly packed bubbles and decent lace. The first sip picks up bitterness and cinnamon notes and alot of alcohol on the throat although you wouldn’t expect 6.5% abv to to this (well I wouldn’t). As it warms up it rapidly loses its carbonation and seems to thin out. I’m probably being a little hard on the numbers since I expected more due to the perlonged aging.

Botled. Very clear and bright colour. Between red wine and whisky. No intense aroma. The flavour isn't very clearly pronunciated either. Little sweet. And where did the palate go to? I expected more of this beer.

Bottle... Hazy, deep copper ale with a large, frothy, khaki head. Terrific, cumulus retention. The nose is slightly flemish and breadsy with a heapin’ helpin’ of pear and fig. Good balance in flavor. Lightly tangy with a touch of dark fruit and cocoa. A bit metallic. Medium-bodied and barely creamy with lively carbonation. Finishes funky and bone dry.

29 November 2005.
Dark brown beer w/ a light brown head. Head is big and poofy, w/ deep pits where it caves in. Aroma is brown sugar and a little malt, but neither very strong. Flavors are also not especially distinct. It’s ok, but it’s quite a bit of work to get anything in particular. As I finish up, there is thick sheeting down the whole glass.

30cl bottle. Poured a clear brown with minimal head. Nose had vinegar, and some candy malt. Flavor was a mix of sweet and sour. malty sweetness, but with a dose of vinegar too. Maybe this bottle was going bad, because it didn’t taste like any other double I’ve had. But it was still drinkable.
