1.8 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Straight from the shelf into the glass. I always thought the grimbergen range was a boring bland commercial non-effort to make beer, but seeing the ratings here and elsewhere on the web i thought to give it a try. And hey, it looks good! A dark glowing golden beer wit ha steady nice creamy white head on top. From now on things can only get worse. And they do.
An aroma of boiled and later burned green beans in my nose is not a pleasant thing. The taste is fairly similar. A nasty burned taste. The sweetness doe not remind my of chocolate and/or toffee, but of plain white sugar and those beans. Again those beans! C’mon, is this Belgian pride? Is this what is been said the only thing that keeps the nation together these days? This kind of beer? I’m really disappointed. And touche, there is a brandy-like aftertaste as promised by the multinational moneymaking brew machine. Shame I don ’t like brandy....

3.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Well rounded ambree beer. It leaves a bitter taste at the end with a little of maple/caramel. Don’t drink as cold as it says on the bottle. Let it stand a little

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Accidental rating - ordered room service in Paris, asked for the beers available, and got the standard run through of the usual suspects. They mentioned Grimbergen, so I went with it - but being France, they never actually tell you which Grimbergen - I was half expecting the wit, but was pleasantly surprised when this arrived with my meal. Poured a deep reddish brown, decent head. Aroma is caramel, toffee, a touch of raisin and plum. Flavor is a match, with a hint of chocolate in the back that sort of richens the toffee notes. Good dark fruit flavors too. Rather liked this one.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Slight sourness in the aroma but not followed through to the taste. Lovely ruby colour and good lasting head (served in Grimbergen goblet). Never overpowering, the dark malt and fruit (dates, prunes) builds to leave a sweetish aftertaste of malt.

Bu en bouteille de 33cl, couleur ambrée et une mousse qui a une bonne tenue. Une bière sympa avec un goût de banane assez fort mais bien équilibrée

Rather fruity for an double. Not bad, but still nothing special going on. The flavors are definitely out the but far from refined.

Buena cerveza doble con muy poca espuma y color muy claro para una doble. Tiene variedad de sabores desde el amargo al dulce pasando por un ligero toque agrio al final. Sienta muy bien y no dudaré en repetirla.
