330ml bottle. Malty, spicy, some caramel aromas. Pours amber, clear, with white head, vanishing, poor lacing. Taste is sweet, alcoholic, very subtle tart.

#81 Hellbraunes Grimbergen mit massig Schaum. Ein obstiges Kernfruchtaroma nach Pflaume, nur leicht hefig. Im Antrunk vollmundig. Nicht so süß wie das Grimbergen Bruin und nicht so herb wie das Blonde; gutes Abteibier! Der Alk.-Gehalt spielt absolut keine Rolle! Hervorragende Ausgewogenheit zwischen Süße und Herbe. Tolles Grimbergen! Grimbergen ist und bleibt mit den Trappisten Bieren eine Bank an guten&geilen belgischen Bieren, kein Zweifel! Bottle@tasting (2001), 33cl. Head:off-white colored foam. Color: tea. Aroma: malt, oak casks. Taste: sweet, spices, some bitter. Palate: smooth, medium body, bitter finish. Overall: ok.

This is a beer that is a bit odd. Amber coloured and clear. Has a white head, medium duration. Aroma is sweet and has some acidic notes too. Flavor is starting sweet, has some fruity notes. Lactic acid? Lively carbonation.

light sour milch aroma,red/amber, clear, off white foam, light sweetness, medium bitterness, light body, creamy, soft carbonation, nice dry finish.

Bottle. Creamy white good mostly lasting head. Amber colour. Moderate malty and hoppy aroma. Moderate bitter flavor. Average moderate bitter finish. Creamy palate.

From BA (Oct 2007): Brown 33cl bottle. Best before 25th Jan 2006. I only bought it in September this year, bloody cheek, I obtained it from a shop in Middlekirke, Belgium. I didn’t think to look at the date. Anyway I poured it into one of my Leffe glasses and it came out looking like this: A slightly hazy amber toffee colour with a fine thick creamty head which was an off white biege colour. Yet again I fail to find the esters others claim, toffee apples and malted barley is all I got. Not really sweet, but that toffee feeling is in there along with some caramel. There is a bite to the taste though, this is not a smooth Dubbel like Westmalle for instance, this is more robust, or of course it might be going off because it is so old? There is a lingering of flavours and the alcohol is there throughout the drink, it is however fairly thin for a true Dubbel and lacks the richness normally found. Although it isn’t a great Dubbel it is still a very nice beer and I would have no problem having another (in date if possible), it is more than ’drinkable’.

Clear brown with red glow and ok beige head. Aroma is nice overripe fruit, raisins and malts. Taste same, sweet. Good body and carbonation.

Bottle: I found this old receipt saying I bought a bottle once, many many years ago in Belgium. I have to be honest and don’t seem to remember much of what this beer looked like, smelled like and tasted like. So I have to pass on typing a correct review, most likely leaving that or for later and/or for other people around here. I remember it wasn’t that bad, but it wasn’t any good either. Kind of regular and normal for Grimbergen. It’s ok.
