Commercial Description:
Double has undergone two fermentations, which gives this ale a chocolatey, toffee taste with a warming brandy-like finish.

Got this compliments of the manager at BU pub, in a snifter, since GeniusGirl knew him and he warmed up to us as beer aficionados. (Nice work, not sure what she did to score us this freebie, but nice. :-) Aroma is like candied fruit, something like a fruit cocktail with syrup. A slight salty flavor for a Belgian. Taste is delicious. Manager asked if he should introduce this beer, and I approved. The whole beer is an experience, and one is fine for its effects. As we sniffed the beer, the manager seemed about ready to well up and cry... "It makes me so happy to see people sniffing beer!" he says.

On tap at Union Jack’s. Clear brown body with reddish hues and a thin off white head. Fig, grape, raisin, date, plum, apple, pear and olive nose. Clean, clear grape taste with dates, dark fruits, peaches, apples, and some spice.

Pours a rich mahogony from the tap with a soapy brown head. Smells and tastes of sweet malts, brown sugar, caramel, and slight cream. Respectable body with a great taste. A tad too sweet for multiple rounds, though.

Bottle. Dark brown/ruby colour with generous off-white head. Fruit and yeast in the aroma. Sweet fruity flavour with a slightly sour finish. Nice balanced body. Would benefit from being bottle conditioned and I’ll be on the lookout for the draught. I won’t be chilling the next one as much.

Thanks to daknole for the chance to try this. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much, not a huge fan of dubbels I guess. But this turned out to be quite enjoyable. Poured a deep copper/red color. Tiny dissipating head. Raisins and dark fruit on the nose. Taste was much the same, with some banana and a finish that wasn’t overly sweet, which was nice. They struck a nice balance with this one. Not crazy complex, but not cloying or syrupy either. I gave points here for keeping it simple and straight forward.

bottle, 33cl vinous and nutty aroma, brown with light brown thick head, flavor is starting to get sour (or is fruity), caramel, nuts , alc non detectable. i think the sour note in the flavor is too dominating.
