DocLock (4170), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Feb 23, 2005 Thanks to beerhandy for this one. As I open it the foam ejaculates forth with the intensity of a Peter North blast. It presents it’s solid red color to me, topped with a sultry, off-white head and mammoth C-cup lace. I smell dark fruit, wanton yeasty Brett and barnyardy aromas, plus some hops. As it covers my taste buds it reveals a dark fruity, caramelly, subdued chocolatey finish. The beer shows itself to be more turbid on the repour, and even fruitier. Smooth and complex and delightful, although not as firm, adventurous, or assertive as some Abbey dubbels I’ve had. Still, I wouldn’t kick this one out of bed.
santoslhalper (184), Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA Oct 5, 2008 On tap at Union Jack’s. Clear brown body with reddish hues and a thin off white head. Fig, grape, raisin, date, plum, apple, pear and olive nose. Clean, clear grape taste with dates, dark fruits, peaches, apples, and some spice. nbutler11 (208), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Oct 1, 2008 Pours a rich mahogony from the tap with a soapy brown head. Smells and tastes of sweet malts, brown sugar, caramel, and slight cream. Respectable body with a great taste. A tad too sweet for multiple rounds, though. EFC1878 (82), Manchester, Greater Manchester, England Oct 1, 2008 Bottle. Dark brown/ruby colour with generous off-white head. Fruit and yeast in the aroma. Sweet fruity flavour with a slightly sour finish. Nice balanced body. Would benefit from being bottle conditioned and I’ll be on the lookout for the draught. I won’t be chilling the next one as much. masonjer (450), Holt, Michigan, USA Oct 1, 2008 Thanks to daknole for the chance to try this. Honestly, I wasn’t expecting much, not a huge fan of dubbels I guess. But this turned out to be quite enjoyable. Poured a deep copper/red color. Tiny dissipating head. Raisins and dark fruit on the nose. Taste was much the same, with some banana and a finish that wasn’t overly sweet, which was nice. They struck a nice balance with this one. Not crazy complex, but not cloying or syrupy either. I gave points here for keeping it simple and straight forward. Pinball (586), Allerød, Denmark Sep 30, 2008 bottle, 33cl
vinous and nutty aroma,
brown with light brown thick head,
flavor is starting to get sour (or is fruity), caramel, nuts , alc non detectable. i think the sour note in the flavor is too dominating.
