Dark red brown bright color. Smell of alcohol. Taste from red ripe summer fruits and a little bit sweet. Lacks depth.

Bottle, little over one year past bb date. Pours ruby brown with a cream head. Very sweet and malty, with dark bread, almond, dark cherries, brown sugar, cinnamon, prunes, charcoal, port like vinous notes. A bit too sweet and boozy, but likable.

Pours brown/dark red with a frothy off-white head. The aroma contains malt, caramel, spices, dark fruits and alcohol. It tastes medium to heavy sweet towards the finish, light sour and light bitter. Full body and oily texture. Very alcoholic finish. A bit off-balance. Definitely a dessert beer.

330 ml bottle. Pours a clearish ruby reddish brown with a resilient beige head. Aroma is chocolate, roast, hazelnut, burnt. Flavor is chocolate, roast, hazelnut. Finish is roast, ash. Lingering chocolate and roast. Medium body, average carbonation.

Donkerbruin, helder bier met matig schuim. Aroma van chocolade, pruimen en koffie. Volle smaak. Drop, fruit en een beetje zoet. Bier om rustig van te genieten.

The beer has a lovely look. The color of the beer is a rather dark amber. The beer is quite clear. On top there is a nice layer of rather rough white foam. The smell is nice. I smell some sour hints of yeast. They suit the dark character of the beer perfectly. The beer has a little metal hint. I also smell some caramel and licorice. It’s nice in balance I think. It’s a blend between wild teased beers and nice Belgian brown ales. The taste is nice. I taste a strong flavor of licorice, caramel, sweet syrup and a strong alcohol finish. It’s in very good balance. There are lovely sweets, bitters and a sour touch. A lovely blend between deliciousness. It’s a pity this isn’t widely on sale. It’s only available for the restaurants and cafes. Reminds me a lot of most Belgian abbey beers. Great beer, easy drinkable and high on alcohol.

UPDATED: MAY 12, 2016 pours almost clear burnt orange with a frothy beige-orange head, reviving and leaving nice lacing. raisiny caramel, very fruity maltiness - berries, buttery strawberries perhaps; tons of treacle with a controlled level of sweetness, spices - aniseed standing out; woody apple brandy liquor, very fruity belgian yeast. bright to moderate carbonation, medium body - oily; semi-sweet, warming and bitter herbal-spicy-woodsy finish. pretty solid quad from a rather large-scale brewery. quite enjoyed!

Note: 7+/10

33cl bb04/2017 (BL1). Bref: briefly caramelised supermarket raisins extinguised with jenever drowned in a Cherry Coke. Pours clear and ruby-brown like Cherry Coke, short-lived industrial fizzy cap. This Heineken instant-quad reduces abbey yeast complexity to a host of sugar- and caramel-derived aromas and flavours that feel superficial and unnecessarily boozy, leaving an abv burn in the stomache: rum-soaked raisins with a lonely cherry for appeal; misses a mid part - mainly a sugar-derived body there, seems like there is no natural malt backbone or flavour at all in this quad? A late generic hop extract bitterness with no real particular terroir stamp, an aftertaste of cheap Ruby Port and cherry cola (also in mouthfeel: fizzy sweet soda) with some lingering hop-peppered caramel in the finish. Dryish, mainly soulless oldschool boozer of the type that tends to give me an instant systemic hangover, seemingly still targeted at French/-speaking markets...for how long that sugar taxes are rising? - - Note 30mins later: merges into its own a bit more as it warms to room temp: raisins and cherry cola (sweet & Haribo sour) meet raisin burn bitterness and peppery, near-clovelike hops with a protracted bitter bite. Still quite artificial and fumey and the biographical fact remains: i have no need for unsubtle heavy hitters like these in my exiled life...

UPDATED: APR 22, 2016 Pours a surprisingly clear dark copper/red with a small offwhite head that leaves really nice lacing. Nose is of figs and other dark fruits and candi sugar. Almost caricatural. Taste is not too sweet and offers dark fruits again with some alcohol. Lots of drying alcohol yet it doesn’t feel hot. Body is medium and carbonation moderate. A bit too light overall I think. A pretty good quadrupel!
