Little aroma, no head and little condition despite being bottle conditioned. Sickly sweet body, like nail varnish remover with added saccharine. Not at all pleasant.

Belgik (72) - Sterrebeek, BELGIUM - JAN 8, 2002
Prologue: I shall shortly taste this beer again, maybe my bottle was off... Appearance: immediately faded till fully gone foam, leaving an almost limpid (some very fine floaters..) copper-brass brew with almost no bubbles, which explains the lack of foam. Looks like apple cider. Slight sour nose, if anything, smells a bit like ’Belle Vue’ class of sweetened krieks. Weak, lifeless brew, upon pouring from very high up, I managed to get just a bit of foam into it... There is no balance whatever between the 9% ABV and anything else there might be there but isn’t. This is real lousy stuff, is it supposed to be like that? In general, I’m finding the Grimbergen range of beers very poor representatives of the Belgian brewing arts. This is not intented to offend! Had the beer again one day later, nothing substantiates changing my rating of this beer, so I’ll stick to my guns.

A very sweet and yeasty tripel. Some spice in the finish, though not enough to rank among my favorites of this style. Still a fine brew.

Very sweet. Some spice in the finish. A lot of malt in this triple. A very champagne like beer. Quite nice for New Years!

This is the beer that got me hooked on Belgians. Get it.

Ernest (5187) - Boulder, Colorado, USA - DEC 20, 2001
Malty aroma, molasses-like, yeasty, with faint scents of orange, grapefruit and banana (those come out stronger only when swirled). Small, quickly and completely diminishing head over a murky amber liquid with a fair amount of very tiny yeast particles visible. Medium to full body, fairly sweet, barely sticky, slightly dry, barely acidic, finish is sweet with a hint of dryness. Flavor is cookie dough malty, with lots of oranges, caramel, and yeast. Pleasant but not very intriguing...aromas and flavors nice, but aren’t very bright or complex.

Cloudy, nice colour, few head. The aroma is very discreet. Slightly sweet flavour with a medium aftertaste.
