2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
20 Oct 2012: beautiful sunny day in the Dutch tourist town of Valkenburg. We sat on some random bar terrace and the beer menu had this on it.
33cl Bottle, best before the end of July 2013: poured into a Grimbergen chalice.
Good clean golden looks: full white crown at first, soon a wisp and collar.
Floral hop nose with mild fruit hints and some yeast esters.
The taste is an OK blend of those floral hops and some hidden malt semi-sweetness. The alcohol and yeast also play a part in ensuring this is one of brand Grimbergen’s better beers.
Body depth isn’t too deep, but it does fine if you consider this as a light bodied Triple. Just above Mr Average.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
Tasted in its regular form and in the limited 75 cl-edition with cork which was marketed as Grimbergen Speciale Tripel / Spéciale Triple 2005 Limited Edition, which was the same beer. Creamy, yellowish white, sticky head, colour orange blonde, clear. Fruity aroma, apple, pineapple, orange, caramel, corn, iron, honey, vanilla, hay, sweet white wine. Sweet orangey and honeyish basic taste, smooth, artificial, light grassy hops in the finish but not nearly enough to balance out the cloying sweetness and alcoholic too, with a somewhat wry effect. Too sweet and too bland.

Bottle, 33cL. Home. A clear dark golden beer with many small bubbles. Huge white head. Good retention. Aroma of herbs, caramel, spices, fruit. Medium sugary sweet with a warming note. Light bitter. Medium body, silky texture, medium carbonation, lasting sweet finish. Overall, a really good spicy "triple", nice balance.

4.7 AROMA 10/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle from Fyne Wines, Argyll. Burnished lemon-gold colour with a good solid long-lasting head. Deliciously sweet-ish tropical fruit-salad aromas; prominent flavours of white pepper, melon and lychee initially dominate palate but eventually soften to reveal notes of stewed pears and honeycomb. I should write more, but frankly I enjoyed this beer too much to concentrate on writing! Easy drinking, but at 9%abv is almost too dangerous for everyday...
