pours dark red brown, small head, disappearing rather quickly. aroma smells light caramel, dough, cough drop, yeasty. sweet arrival, rather shallow and superficial taste, develops into light sourness combined with caramel and brown Sugar. rather thin on the palate, doesn’t last very long. flat beer with poor complexity, not at all warming as a winter beer. lacks depth and spicy mouthfeel ...

Aroma: melanoidins, crusty bread, dark malts. Appearance: clear amber color, beige head. Appearance: low bitterness, dried fruits, dark malts, smooth, slightly acid, sweet. Palate: medium body and medium carbonation, sweet finish. Overall: Strange beer, quite sweet, some esters, but that’s all

a_cross (639) - Poole, Dorset, ENGLAND - FEB 21, 2015
Pours fizzy, dark and with no head, pretty much like a coke; slight reddish hue on closer inspection; aroma is sugary dark fruits: currants, raisins, a bit like a mince pie; taste is similar: dark fruits, then sweetness through to the finish; some blackcurrant, some cola, you get the idea; on the thin side; flat alcoholic coke by any other name; it’s ok.

Couleur sombre, mousse qui disparait. Nez caramel cuit avec derrière des vieux fruits. Gout caramel avec vieux fruits qui donne un peu un caractère industriel très moyen, avec malt, sucre. Pas si mauvaise mais grand public.

Douberd (3423) - Arnhem, NETHERLANDS - JAN 26, 2015
(Grimbergen Winter) Bottle 330 ml at home, served into a tall tulip, ABV 6.5% Chestnut brown colour on the body, still transparent, one finger of tan head, a bit thin but with good retention, leaving light lacing behind. Aroma of caramel, marmalade, prunes, surar. Taste of sugar, red stewed fruits, lots of prunes, not bad. Medium thin body, good carbonation. Good, a bit more alcohol to make it a true winter warmer and it would be even better.
