Action/Adventure is our lichtenhainer, a near extinct German-style smoked sour ale. As intimidating as that may sound, this wheaty, hazy-golden beer is actually a quenching, lightly tart summertime treat with a bit of smoke in the background — Grimm’s idea of a lawnmower beer! We picture you unwinding with a glass at a backyard cookout on a hot August night. Recommended for fans of Gose, Berliner Weisse, and Grätzer. Action/Adventure is brewed with cherrywood-smoked malt to balance the lactic tartness. We made use of wild lactobacillus that naturally occurs on grain to sour our wort overnight.

Gut. 11/12/12/12/9//12

22 oz. bottle. Pours a hazy yellow gold with a moderate white head that is gone by the second sip and leaves light lace. Pleasant aroma of lemon, mild smoke, and some mild peach. The flavor is lemon, tart and bright, mild smoke, and tart berries. Mild bitterness at the finish. Tart and bright on the palate. Medium bodied. Quite enjoyable!

Bottle. Pours pale orange/yellow with almost no head. Aroma is medium meaty smoke, grain, corn, lemon, peach. Aroma is sour apricot and lemon fading into wood, smoke, and oddly a little bit of tart berries and coffee. Puckering sourness. Good. One of the better offerings from Grimm.

The aroma is lemon, smoky, wood, tart cherry. The appearance is hazy yellow, foamy white head. The flavor is tart, fruit, wood, lemon, smoke. The finish is lemon, citrus, salty, smoky. Lots going on. Medium in body. Really nice, and refreshing. Interesting take on an unusual style.

The Sampler, Brooklyn tap: Pours a cloudy yellow with a white head Aroma is light citrus and a bunch of lactic acid... the smoke is more noticeable in the taste than in the nose. Taste is quite sour and them ends with a lightly smoked finish. This was quite good.

Bottle pour. Matte wheat color. White head on the small side. Minimal lacing. Salty nose, with hint of chili. Tart and lightly smokey. Taste plays with this dichotomy, presenting as both. Lemon zest, poblanos, and wood chips. Light wheat funk. More smoke on finish. In the end, the smokiness wins out, which depending on your palate, is either a good thing or a bit of a let down. I have not tasted anything like this, and I enjoyed it. +1.
