The Three Golden Hairs is a clean crisp and refreshing Czech style pilsner. This beer is brewed with German Pilsen malt and hopped with Saaz hops, giving it a clean crisp malt backing accentuated by the floral hop aromas and flavors of the hops. A perfect beer to bring in the spring!

On tap at The Horseshoe Lounge. Pale gold appearance with a lacy white head. Aroma and flavor of husky, toasted grains, floral notes, hop spice, earth and grass. Crisp and pretty clean, a solid pilsner overall.

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, white, mostly diminishing. Body is light to medium yellow. Aroma is lightly to moderately malty (toasted grain, cereal), moderately hoppy (herbs, honeysuckle flowers), with a light note of soap. Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly acidic, lightly to moderately bitter. Finish is lightly sweet, lightly acidic, moderately bitter, slightly husky. Medium body, watery texture, lively carbonation. Well, it certainly isnít Czech style IMHO (straight up German all the way, both in the malt department and the hops smell like Tettnanger to me), but the hop bouquet is quite nice. Itís a bit limp and watery and husky and soapy, but at least itís balanced better than most things this brewery has made in the past. If it were cleaner, this could be really nice.

10 oz at Historianís. This is a brilliant gold with a firm white head an appropriately high carbonation. The aroma is light, crisp and clean. No DMS. Crackery grains are highlighted by citrus and spicy noble hops. Flavor and palate are light and crisp. Excellently clean and dry pils. Grainy, bready malt and a good display of spicy hops. This is a very clean, well-executed, no-frills pilsner.

651 ml. bottle. Pours a medium, slowly collapsing white head, over aa slightly hazy, dark yellow (SRM 4) body.....nose is heavy DMS, light hop spice, cereal.....taste is moderately sweet, withheavy DMS, light cereal, finishing with moderate bitterness.....mouth feel, light body, no alcohol notes, light acid. This particular bottle has significant flaws. It is hazy, not clear, DMS is from the Pils malt, but is much too present. It is not crisp, refreshing and has an off aroma and flavor. It may have been completely mis-handeled by the store.BJCP 5/2/10/4/5

Lightly hazed gold. Sweet Pilsner malt sugar, notes of soap, calcium, granite, dough. Sweet, a little goopy, mild to moderate bitterness. Finish is glycerol film, sweet baked corn kernel / corn nuts and notes of plastic. Malt and yeast smell alright, thereís no major off-notes and nothing is out of whack. This from a brewery that pretty much stinks at lagers and German ales, which is their "specialty". Years ago I put down decent ratings from a brewpub visit not long after they started. After a re-visit and a couple of bottles I had given up. But here I was suckered in and rolled the dice. I do like a gamble. Not that I would buy this again at $7+, but at least the brewery is showing some promise. The last beer I had from them was bacteria, so Iím giving them credit for actually making a clean Pilsner. Itís too sweet, under-hopped, a little soapy and fruity/boozy like low-grade Heller Bock, but decent to drink for those of us with low enough lager standards. From Bottle.

This is what our big-box brewers should aim for. Aroma is subdued and complex. Taste is a very nice combination of malt and hops, with floral and citrus undertones. Pleasant mouthfeel and nice finish. A keeper!
