Pour on tap at Avery Strong Ale 2012, dark brownish red pour with thin white head, aroma brought notes of acetic and lactic acids, some slight funk and wine notes, touch of some dark fruits with a hint of maybe a bit of roast, but this comes across as a flanders bruin. Taste is similar with vinegar and wine notes, some tannic grape skins and red grapes with a slight lactic note, finishing fairly tart and slightly funky.

On tap at Grimm Brothers’ new taproom grand opening, as well as at The Count release, and at Avery Strong Ale Fest 2012, reviewed from recollection. Pours ruby brown with a thin white head. Aromas of wild Brett, slight floral/leathery funk, the crisp, somewhat mineral water effect of a lager yeast, and the taste follows suit here. But on the palate also comes red and dark fruits, citrus, and a satisfying tartness. A real accomplishment if you ask me. I spoke with a brewer at their new taproom grand opening, and apparently they coopered their own barrel and added Brett and souring bacterias, leaving the base beer in there for a little over a year. Exciting.

At Avery’s 2012 Strong Ale Fest. Clear dark brown , no head except for a thin light tan film. Kinda bretty aroma, light sourness, with some bubblegum esters and some earthiness. Nice flavor of bretty oak with some dark malts and yeasty bubblegum with some roasted toffee earthiness.

On tap at Avery Strong Ale Fest poured a clear reddish brown with a small lingering tan head. Aromas of sour citrus, barnyard funk and carmel. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry tart finish. Flavors of sour citrus, earthiness, barnyard funk and light carmel with a crisp dry tart lingering citrus finish.

Tap @ new tasting room. Fucking weird idea but hey, at least they’re being creative. Clear, deep reddish brown appearance with a light brown head. Tart, dark plum, raspberry/blackberry, somewhat vinous, moderately acidic aroma that doesn’t smell anything like a bock. Tangy dark fruity (grape, blackberry, plum) flavor that sort of reminds me of an oud bruin. Fairly tart, rich fruity, red vinous flavor. Actually a pretty cool beer, though it isn’t anything like a bock. Evidently this is actually lagered but was then put into Cab barrels with Brett. Cool beans.

draft. highly acetic nose somewhat resembles east flanders bruin, and has a distinct balsamic character like turned wine. prickly, spicy worcestershire sauce flavor and pepperiness. meaty jerky brine finish is salty and acidic. medium-full body and chewy. not a disaster as expected, but still pretty poor, with cola and unclean dark fruit esters growing as the glass warms.
