COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Once upon a time in the ancient city of Düsseldorf, monks perfected a style of brewing that used the top-fermenting yeast of an ale and the cold conditioning of a lager. The result was a clean-tasting, full-bodied ale, known as altbier, At Grimm Brothers, we’ve crafted our own version of an altbier from specialty malts and the finest European and American hops. Like its namesake, Little Red Cap is copper-colored and alluringly sweet. But don’t be fooled – there’s some sass hidden under that hood. Big bad wolves beware!

Pours a deep copper with near perfect carbonation and frothy head. Not much of a nose unless my sniffer is busted... Very bitter malty copper on the first drink, then a few flavors of caramel and peanuts. The malt and hops are very well balanced, but not much flavor coming through and bitter. I don’t like bitter, but that is the style of beer... It was okay. Not sure if I would buy it again, but would recommend a try.

650 ml. bottle. Pours a medium white, long duration, head, over a clear amber (SRM 14) body.....nose is cereal, toffee/caramel, light hop spice....taste is cereal, light toffee/caramel, slight metallic bite, finishing with medium spicy hop bitterness...mouth feel medium, carbonation low. This meets the style and works well except for the metallic hints. BJCP 7/3/13/4/7

Bottle. Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting. Body is medium amber-brown. Aroma is moderately malty (caramel, toasted grain/nuts), lightly to moderately hoppy (apricot, grapefruit). Flavor is moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, lightly bitter. Finish is lightly to moderately sweet, lightly to moderately acidic, moderately bitter. Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic. Plain, overly sweet, and it has a sour twang, but it could definitely be worse...there’s no off notes to my nose. Perhaps the most disappointing part is that it just smells like an American brown ale (mostly because the hops are too fruity...whereas the malt smells about right to me). Ok, but hoped for better.

Bomber from my old shipmate Ric. Clear copper with a thin off white head. Nice malty slightly nutty nose, a touch of herbal hoppiness. Smooth with decent carbonation, lightly bitter earth over mild caramel. Damn tasty. Finishes rather cleanly.

This beer in my opinion was an easy drinker. At first pour it has a red hue to it with a sweet smell. I have had it on tap at the brewhouse and felt that it was a bit sweeter than the bottle. Overall though I thought was an excellent Alt style ale.

Very easy to put down. Reddish and light. Sweet with a hint a caramel. I expected a sour finish but it came down smooth. Filling. Alternative Style Ale indeed. Yum

A clear, mahogany color with a medium, creamy, off-white, somewhat lasting head which leaves thick, soapy lace. The nose is typical with lots of bread, rich caramel, some toasty notes, and faint raisin. The flavor is similar with bitter bread notes, rich caramel, mineral, still toasty, and very faint raisin. The palate is more than moderate, creamy, lively, and slightly crisp. The finish is bitter and rich with plenty of bread and caramel. Very ocktoberfest-like with the intense richness and dry fruit notes but still has the bready and bitterness of the alt. Actually a beer I liked despite the style meshing. Not much else to say.

Tasted bottle, thanks to adnielsen. Pours a reddish-brown with cream colored head. Nutty, caramel, malty aroma. Sweet, malty flavor with a dry aftertaste. A little more hoppiness than I tasted in other altbiers, but not too much hoppiness. Overall a very tasty brew. I wish more breweries took a shot at altbiers. Thanks Aaron for sending the bottle.

Bottle thanks to Aaron. Pours muddy brown with cream white head. Nose/taste of caramel, white pepper, malt, nuts and mild spices. Medium body. Clean and crisp finish.
