Tap @ brewery. Clear dark dark brown in color with a big nose of roasted black malts, roast chocolate, some soft notes of coffee grounds, and a slight licorice tone. Quite aromatic. And quite flavorful too! Some dark chocolate, some brown cereal malts, with a slight kick f coffee flavors. Not a punch in the face, but a full palate nonetheless, even though it was medium-ish bodied. Roasty dark with a chocolatey sweetness. Delightful!

"German style porter" - I think this translates into schwarzbier brewed with ale yeast - a lot of deeply caramelized sugars and roast in the favor - a hint of acidity to balance - minimal hop profile - light berry-ish esters - a hint of smoke and dry, roasty malt in the finish - nice, but a little less sweetness would be preferred.

Sample at the brewery on 9/16/10. Never heard of a German porter before, so I’m intrigued. Black pour with a medium tan head. Roasty nose with plenty of chocolate, some licorice and a hint of metal. Sweet chocolate flavor up front with a bit of licorice before a roasty coffee finish. Very nice!
