3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, - SEP 10, 2003
UPDATED: SEP 17, 2003 Bottle. Lives up to its name - poured a huge head, which settled down nicely with nice lacing. Roasty aroma, Nutty mocha flavours. Slight yeast bite? Some floaties in it (yeast bits maybe?) A nice beer. Thanks to Presario.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 piscator34 (1644) - Winnipeg, Manitoba, CANADA - MAY 17, 2012
On draft at the brewpub. Brown in colour with moderate carbonation. Aromas are of toasted malt and a hint of chocolate. A nice blend of toasted and mild roasted malt notes in the mouth, along with a surprising minty hop element. Medium bodied, with a bit more complexity than some of Grizzly Paws other offerings. Solid overall.
3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 reebtogi (2197) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 29, 2011
Pint on tap at the Grizz Paw in Canmore. Poured a nice brown color with some amber highlights when held up to the light with a small tan head and nice lacing. Aromas of roasted malts and nuts. Taste is much the same with a dry bitter hop finish. Overall, this was a nice smooth easy to drink beer, quite enjoyable.

Nutty and sweet like the menu says but not the richest ale I’ve had by a long shot. On tap at Grizzly.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 Powertrip (845) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 30, 2010
Sample Tasting. Chocolate nut colour. Nose: Rocky road chocolate mix & red liquorice....awesome. Taste: Milk Chocolate, pecans and a stand-out spice that tingled the tonque. Great stuff and not over the top at all.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1699) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 10, 2009
Covered in mud, stinking and nearly comatose, I sat at my table at the Grizzly Paw Pub gorging myself on an unearthly ammount of poutine and then my beer appeared. Super dark brown in colour, it had a small sized light tan head that left nice permanent lacing throughout the first half. The aroma was fresh with dark but sweet malts and not too much more - needed more smell forsure. Then again, I smelt like dead people, so maybe I was nullifying the aroma. Taste consisted of plently of lightly roasted malts, a small ammount of weak, spicy bitter hops, yeast and more malts. Beer was really smooth with a slight bitter dry finish. Highly drinkable in large quantities.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20 fiulijn (10421) - Como, ITALY - AUG 4, 2008
Draught at the brewpub Mahogany color. Another poor beer after the Pilsner, Red, Wheat and Amber: just some dry caramel flavor. Useless.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 pintbypint (1611) - Edmonton, Alberta, CANADA - OCT 17, 2007
Draft at brewpub. Pours a nice deep red colour, small tenacious tan head. Caramel/tofee malt nose. Flavour has decent malts, nutty, a touch of raost and toffee. Aftertaste is nutty with some roast, a little hop presence in the finish.
3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Ughsmash (5836) - Waukesha, Wisconsin, USA - AUG 31, 2006
On tap at Grizzy Paw. Poured a deep reddish/cola brown with a short dusting of beige head. Nose was nutty with coffee and some herbs... rather light, but well-done. Very nice coffee base to the flavor supported by nutty notes and herbal bitterness at the edges. Lighter-bodied and smooth on the palate... bitterness lower and well-done.
3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 DuffMan (4429) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - AUG 16, 2006
I tried this as part of an 8 beer tasting tray at the pub. The tasting tray is an excellent value, featuring Big Head brown, Grumpy Bear Wheat, Powder Hound pilsener, Rutting Elk red, Beavertail Raspberry, Randy Goat pilsener, and two seasonal brews that are new: Bloody Hell Pale Ale and Burrowing Badger Summer Ale. This one was a dark brown with a modest tan head. Wood chip smokiness dominates the aroma, and carries over to the palate, which is also slightly nutty and generously hopped to give a nice bitter finish. A surprising combination, but very good, and more complex than the other brown ales I’ve tried.
