Not sure if this is a permanent change to the old Moose Knuckle or not. I was chatting to the brewmaster but forgot to ask. Looks much the same as the "regular" Moose Knuckle, but the aroma of rich coffee roast is unmistakable. Lots of dark coffee bean flavour too, some molasses, some burnt malt. Medium bodied, low bitterness. Very nice.

On draft at the brewpub. Near black in colour with medium carbonation. Heavy coffee aroma with a bit of caramel in the background. The somewhat acidic coffee flavour really takes over on the palate, but there is a a touch of caramel and vanilla lurking. Watery mouthfeel and a bit simplistic. Average.

Pint on tap at the Grizz Paw in Canmore. Poured a deep black color with tan head and some decent lacing. Aroma of coffee. Taste is roasted malts and coffee. Decent body and carbonation. This is a decent stout, but needs a little more balance to it, I find that the coffee is a little overpowering.

This version of moose is waaaay supirior to the old version. Brewer not in to ask if this us a permanent recipir. Black, thick brown cap that lasts but leaves little lacing. Good roast, more than before and much stringer, strong stiff coffee, nut, vanilla, I may be imaging the chocolst. Good aroma without overpowering coffee. Plenty of coffee inthe flavour with lots of medium nutty roast. Grass? Bit of chocolate but it gives a touch of complexity. Fairly smooth, a huge step up from the old version. Very drinkable.

Strong taste of coffee on the tip of your tongue, but doesn’t leave much of a beer after it. On tap at Grizzly’s

Sample glass. Black with thin dark brown foam. Light scent. Coffee flavoured and straight forward.

Coffee and beer? What’s not to like? Plus I like a good stout, and this one was quite pleasing!
