1.6 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 5/20 Chugalug (29) - Calgary, - DEC 7, 2006
More pleasurable than the Powderhound, but still a fairly unimpressive pilsner offering. Barely any hops, and a bit of butterscotch to top it off.
2.2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 9/20 Vertical Bacon Strips (1699) - Asshat, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 14, 2009
K, I’ve had this on tap before, but I’m reviewing out of the bottle. Light yellow gold brew with scattered floaties. Poured minimal head with very little retention. Aroma is present enough but just doesn’t get it done. Very fruity hops resemble a highly sweet lemon candy. Some wheat and malt is present too. Damn this is really fruity when it warms. And a healthy dose of malts too! Aint that bad actually. Getting better every sniff. Flavour has improved after sitting in my glass for 30 mins. Lots of stiff hops and a good dose of mild malts with some fruit. Not well balanced at all. Mouthfeel is on the rough side. Light bodied. Carbonated well. Short bitter bite with some suprising spice and a shot of sourness. Leave the mouth on the dry side. It’s Ok I guess but I think I would have to be in the right mood to want more
0.7 AROMA 2/10 APPEARANCE 1/5 TASTE 1/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 2/20 dkoonce (905) - People’s Republic of Athens, Ohio, USA - JUL 18, 2006
Bottle. Light yellow, almost colorless with absolutely no head. Obvious carbonation, with bubbles along the side of the glass (like a ginger ale). Aroma is sweet and malty. Very wierd cardboard flavor. The finish was sour. Poured the rest down the drain.
2.7 AROMA 1/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 14/20 DuffMan (4429) - the land of bitumen, beef & beer, Alberta, CANADA - JUN 5, 2006
Hazy pale yellow. Very stanky, like wet hair. Light and floral on the palate, a little bit of sweet spice even, fresh and almost tart. If I didn’t know any better, I would swear this was a witbier and not a pilsener. Really good though.
2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 jerc (5591) - Toronto, Ontario, CANADA - DEC 4, 2005
Bottle. Pours a massive white head that defies drinking until it sttles down. Pale ywllow body. Grassy herbal, mildly funky aroma. Flavour is grassy and floral with enough of a tart/sour bite to suspect it is past its prime. Average palate, slightly thin.
3.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 pootzboy (1312) - Hawgville, Ontario, CANADA - OCT 30, 2005
A real pilsner in the Czech tradition...this is refreshing to find in Canada where even micro pilsners are kept bland. ....light gold, light bodied, dry and slightly bitter with a whack of light biscuit malt. Only lacks the pungent floral aroma of its European relatives. Lots Weyermann pilsner malt to chew on until the rush of Saaz hops balance it out and create that dry refreshing pilsen rush. A great Canadian Micro pils and will probably go under rated until some ale geek like Mike Jackson takes a swig of it.
2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 11/20 OKBeer (1168) - Halifax, Nova Scotia, CANADA - JUL 26, 2005
341 ml bottle. Golden colour, lots of floating particles, mostly diminishing white foam. Honey, floral, and light spciy aroma. Honey, sweet flavour with a distinct, but uninteresting, floral bitter finish. Medium bodied, soft carbonation.
2.3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20 presario (4137) - Stampede City, Alberta, CANADA - MAY 13, 2005
UPDATED: MAY 14, 2005 Bottle. I checked with the brewer and this is a new recipe and not a re-naming of the Drooling Moose. Head starts well but ends quickly. Gold beer. Aroma of sweetness and hops. Sweet full body. Weird finish and flavour. Not sure if it is strong yeast, unusual hops or polyester fiber.
3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 TipsyMcStager (1065) - Calgary, Alberta, CANADA - APR 16, 2005
Pleasant malty aroma: sweetness, bread, maybe some hops. Pours a light golden yellow, flat with a weak head. Light body, very slight hops. Could use a little more in the finish. Drinkable - not a standout
