tiggmtl (4155), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada Sep 2, 2005 Interesting woody aroma offers notes of soy, melon-fresh fruitiness and a leafy herbal aspect. Opaque reddish-brown with low tan head that recedes to ring with some patchy lace. Oaky, lightly tart flavour with herbal hop flavour and fair bitterness but not a lot of malt character. Medium light body is on the dry side with fair carbonation. Sampled at the Michigan Brewers Guild Summer Beer Festival 2005.
Rastacouere (5201), Montréal, Quebec, Canada Jul 29, 2005 Cask at Michigan beer fest. Superb lacing forms amongst the big foamy eggy head. Smooth looking murky chestnut brown. Candyish nose immediately appears very sweet. Greenish vegetal notes live by the slightly earthy and sulfury nature of the beer. Cherryish and grapey certainly, but of very limited acidity, mostly juicy and sulfury with an unclean soily tang. Gets fairly dry toward the finish, poor overall balance. Thin flatish palate doesn’t work well for an oud bruin.
