A bronze colored beer with a huge orange head. The aroma is malty and hoppy with notes of hay and hints of sourness. The flavor is very sweet and very hoppy with notes of caramel and grass and again hints of sourness.

Bottle. Reddish colour with white head. Fresh malty aroma. Malty flavour, a little peppery. Liquorice, salty aftertaste. Nice, slightly soft mouthfeel with pleasantly low carbonation.

Bottled ("vintage" 2004, BBE 07/2005)
Amber color, big cloudy tanned head, lace. Caramelly, malty and smokey aroma. Medium-bodied. Toffeeish palate. Starts sugary, then harsh bitterness and metal. Kind of sweet bock-like beer.

bierkoning (8953) - La Tropica, NETHERLANDS - FEB 16, 2004
Amber color, slowly fading frothy head. Zoethout (sweet wood with a licorice flavor, don't know the English word, if there is one!) aroma. Sweetish flavor with malt, licorice and caramel. Just a hint of bitterness in the woody aftertaste. Onedimensional but well balanced. Soft for its high ABV. Not bad.

(bottle) Clear amber colour with a big frothy lightly tanned head. Dusty and slightly sweet toasted malty nose with caramel and a fruity-sour (bergamot) note. Sweet flavour, medium bodied. Initially sweet toastmalty with caramel and hazelnuts. Slightly dry and bitter finish with touch of liquorice. I would buy more of that.

JorisPPattyn (7308) - Antwerpen, BELGIUM - MAR 20, 2005
Clear foxy-amber; large yellowish compound head leaving textbook lace. Chalk, coloured malts nose converging to herbal notes. Initial cloying sweet taste, like cookies with synthetic vanilla flavouring. Ends again herbal, a bit more fresh-tasting, but still very sweet & malty. Tinge of salt in the finish, or is it a bit smoked? Medium bodied, rather slick. Aftertaste has some metallic bitterness. Ho-hum. At least less humbug than the commercial description. I found it in Zeeuws Vlaanderen, if you please. The very other side of the Netherlands!

Brownish amber coloured. Malty aroma. Sweet and malty flavour. Rather thin and metallic.

0.45cl Bottle - Tak Jacob Light fruity and roasted malt aroma. Chestnut color, low off-white creamy head, low carbonation. Subdued malt and nutty notes, just enough fruity flavors not to confuse it with a (boring) dunkel - then again I might have thought that if it hadn’t been for the description at the top of the page. Mellow soft mouthfeel, slight orangepeel ,metallic hop and nut aftertaste. Not very inspiring.

Not too bad if you like very sweet beers. But I actually enjoyed it a lot. Nice glass as well. Maybe I liked it because it was 1 month pass it expire date. Sweety, caramel, sugar, fruity, orange, little bit sparkling.

Sweet-malty and fruity aroma. Amber coloured with a lasting off-white head. Taste is hoppy, sweet, anice and (sticks of} liquorice (which means 'Zoethout' according to my dictionary... ). Bitterness in the end. I didn't expect a Grolsch-brew to be tasty.
