Better than a heineken. Skunky aroma present. Sour on the palate with slight bitterness. Crisp and refreshing however.

If you’re a homebrewer, chances are pretty good you’ve had Grolsch Premium Lager since its swing-top bottles are great for bottling your own homebrews. I’ve been Homebrewing for nearly four years and I’ve never actually had this beer until now. I went in with some expectations and this beer met them almost exactly. It’s essentially the same as all the other brews of its type, though I will say this one is a tad cleaner-tasting and actually has some hop character to it. An all-malt version in a can would probably be a solid beer whereas this is just… meh.

I poured a 15.2oz bottle into a mug. It had a best before date of 9/10/15 and cost $2.99 ($0.20 per ounce).

Appearance: Crystal clear golden/amber color. Slow, small carbonation bubbles sporadically rise. Pours to a large, white, foamy head which mostly dissipates and leaves minor lacing.

Smell: Pretty skunky at first due to the green bottle, but it quickly fades. Eventually has an almost neutral, generic pale lager aroma. Nothing off-putting.

Taste: The first swig was a tad sour and abrasive due to the light-strike, but my palate quickly became accustomed to it. I picked up on some lightly sweet honey/amber maltiness at the beginning and some lightly spicy hop bitterness on the finish. I’m not sure if this beer contains adjuncts, though I do detect a light Corn Flakes flavor or some kind of corn product. Whatever it is, the palette just doesn’t seem completely “pure.” There is minor acetaldehyde (green apple flavor) in the aftertaste, but it’s mild and tolerable. The spicy hop character fades entire too quickly – had it lingered this would actually pretty good for a macro “premium” lager. I could drink this for the bottle if for no other reason.

Drinkability: At only 5% ABV, Grolsch Premium Lager does exactly what it’s supposed to do: work as a light-bodied lager. The mouthfeel is thin and crisp, but with no carbonic bite. Somewhat refreshing while in the mouth, but not a refreshing beer per se due to the acetaldehyde character. Too heavy to session, too light to stand up to anything other than snack fare.

Bottle 0,50L. Clear, golden colour with small, frothy white head, that dissipate fast. Aroma of bread, grain, some mold. Skunky when I open it, but after a couple of minutes skunky smell dissipate. Taste is light sweet with some poor bitterness at the end. Watery beer with light to medium body. Have this one many times, years ago. Don’t know if this beer isn’t as good as it used to be, or my taste changed with years. Or maybe both of it.

pours a very light amber. Malty nose. malty flavor with a metallic finish. Better than Stella, but I guess that isn’t saying much.

Patrzeć... Cieszyć oczy, krachlą strzelić, pić zimne i tylko zimne. Kiedyś ten "inny" aromat z butelki to było coś... ach to kiedyś...

Aromat mocno chmielowy. Piwo klarowne, bardzo przejrzyste, złota barwa. Piana szybko opada i prawie całkowicie znika. W smaku nic rewelacyjnego, goryczka jest ale jak dla mnie za słaba. Zero musowania. Nic specjalnego ogółem.

330ml bottle into Grolsch glass (hooray!). Slight spicy hop and (more) malt nose. Sparking pale amber with bubbles, lasting white head. Thin spritzy chalky body, not unpleasant. Finish is low-key metallic hops. Not bad.

Mild maltyness in both aroma and taste. Crystal clear bright yello appearence. However over all pretty boring average lager.

Bottle (purchased for the flip top lid for home brew). Malty aroma and taste. Overall bland and pretty flavorless macro suds. But the bottles were cheaper than empty flip tops at the local home brew shop! ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
