Bottle at home. Very dark brown with light brown head. Coffee, dates, raisins, dried plums, roasted malts, caramel, light spices, ash, some vegetables and cardboard in the finish. Light sweet and under medium bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation. Surprisingly decent, maybe it’s because this is two months past the best before date, but apart from the finish I think it’s quite drinkable.

Deze fles moest er ook maar eens aan geloven. Weinig spannends, zwaar en donker. Backlog from 2015/01/16.

Drank a 2014 bottle with Rik at my home 20-10-2015. Beer is watery. Not special. Only slight coffee aftertaste.

Bottle. Pours a deep dark brown beer with a very small off white head on top. Aroma is dark fruits, touches of coffee, licorice and quite malty. Flavor is very sweet, malty and sugary with molasses in the back. Slight bittersweet finish, low carbonation. Decent at best, but really not much cool going on here.

30cl Bottle from Winterbierfestival. Bottle from last year, ABV is 8%. Dark brown with a red hue, off-white head. Aroma of grain, bready malts, dark fruits, caramel, lager-like notes, chocolate, smells like a dunkler bock. Flavour is medium-sweet, malty, a little oxidized, dark fruits, chocolate, bread, bitter malty finish. Medium-bodied at best. Very German feel to it.

At Gouda 2014. Poured medium reddish amber with a small off white head. Aroma of dark fruit and sweet caramel malt. Medium to full body, nicely balanced, flavour of yeasty berry fruit over caramel malt.

Very dark brown colour. Has a mix of sweet dried fruit and a roasted, dry bitterness. Some liquourice comes through in the finish.

Bottle sampled at Gouda Winterbier Festival. Cloudy golden with a white head. Aroma of nettles, grassy hops and caramel. Flavour is light moderate sweet and moderate bitter. Some citrus coming out in the palate. Medium bodied with light carbonation.

dark/red appearance. Flavor gets a little better as it warms up. It is a nice warming drink. Caramel is nice, also some iron, maybe even liver. On the watery side, which is disappointing. Bottle from a Jumbo supermarket at the Wilhelminakade in Groningen.

Bottle, 300 ml, poured into a tulip glass at home. ABV 9% Pours a deep mahogany brown coloured beer, with nice deep ruby shades when hold against the light. Small head but thick enough, average retention and light lacing left behind. Aroma is very sweet with lots of prunes and tons of malts, lighty roasted. It reminds me of those malt nutritious beverages, only much more heavy and sweet. Taste follows, very very sweet, all malty, molasses. Not sickenly or artificial sweet but not something I’m looking for in a beer. Very thick body, sticky palate. Overall, weel, not my favourite one. If it wasn’t for the alcohol, and more as a warming feeling rather than notable on the taste, it could pass as an malt energy drink or as those non alcohol beers for kids. Saved by appearance and mouthfeel.
