3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 FishManLA (337) - Abita Springs, Louisiana, USA - SEP 29, 2008
Deep reddish brown with a medium sized long-lasting head. Nose of raisins and prunes. Taste of dark fruits, nuts, sugar, and bread, like fruitcake. Bitter/sweet fruit and nut finish. This for sale in USA bottle was labeled "Grotten Brown, Pierre Celis Signature Selection" and the ABV of this batch is stated to be 6.7% on the bottle. From Brouwerij St. Bernard (so I’m confident I identified it correctly). Label graphics are essentially identical to the picture here.

Candy sugar and light sweet fruit syrup on the nose, intense fruitcake flavours but unfortunately this is a little tired, long journey and a long time in the bottle have taken their toll and this is not as good as i’m used to.

(Dégusté avec french tickler) Une biere brune avec un bon collet moyennement collant. Odeur tres sucré, peches, fraises framboises et un peu de sel. Gout sucré, caramel et clous de girofle.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 gabrielsyme (66) - Ohio, USA - SEP 5, 2008
Medium brown, big tan head. Lots of hops/bitterness, with little sweetness. The aroma is much sweeter, with caramel and spice that is not in the flavor
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 crazyvin (1536) - New York, USA - SEP 3, 2008
decent, but mediocre dubbel. Poured a nice brown hue with a tan head that had good retention and some lacing. Aroma was malty mostly fruity but some yeasty notes. Flavor was also rich in malts, fruitiness mostly and a hint of sugary notes, a bread like finish. Hops were slightly bitter. Carbonation was minimal.
3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20 Chrism86 (294) - Melbourne, AUSTRALIA - AUG 29, 2008
Pours a dull, deep ruby tending to auburn with a substantial but rather loosely packed off white head. Aromas are dominated by honey and caramel with obvious banana and hinting raisins. Palate seems alot more reserved. Caramel/toffee seem to accompany sweet malt with yeasty banana characters coming through. Finish is rather malty with subtleties of liquered raisins.
