Bottle thanks to Paul. Clear amber coloured with a lasting off white head. Aroma is spicy cinnamon rye bread. Flavour is sweet unrefined sugars, cinnamon and stale bread. Palate is semi sweet moderate high carbonation. Decent enough.

Buona dubbel, ma niente in confronto alla sorella Prior 8 o a quelle di Chimay e di la Trappe.

Bottle at Moorings. It pours clear brown with a thick beige head. The nose is earthy, brown bread, toast, light spice and wood. The taste is brown bread, raisin, date, caramel, wood, leather, light bitterness, candy and a touch of alcohol with a dry finish. Medium body and moderate carbonation. Rather drinkable stuff.

NOZE : Spicy, yeasty, farmy. Earth/leaves. some resin notes from the hops/grut. EYE : Nice brown-orange clear. minimal light brown head, didn’t last long. TONGUE : Agressive but lovely medium sweet, medium bitterness, medium sourness, good balance. really spicy, a bit salty. MOUTH : lively, full body, somehow light density, but more than other brown I tried. astringent finish, but long. thin oily feel. OVERALL : Really good, loved the spicy/light aspect. for only 6,5% ! Poured in trapist glass from 33cl cold bottle. Gift from Laura and Michael.

1- cinnamon, sherry, port, leather 2- medium brown with a full tan head 3- rich malt flavor with a medium alcohol bite 4- medium body with a thick texture 5- 2002 bottle, A wonderful beer that has aged well in my cellar, the old malt character (port, leather, tobacco) are terrific.

Birra scura piacevole ma non eccezionale, maltata, dolce e con note di frutta scura e bacche, con una punta alcolica e una sfumatura di lievito.

Bottle from Yamaichi. Seriously fruity nose: grapes, raspberries, raisins, pine needles. A touch of funk, too. Hazy medium brown color. Creamy malty initial, light honey and dark fruit, some cherries. Soild bittering in mid: it peeks through and announces itself. Medium body, with a slight bit of acidity. Aroma is sharp and pleasant. Flavors are milder but also more complex.
