joshwilfong (769), Cleveland, Ohio, USA Aug 3, 2006 nice mohagany color, decent nose of sweet plum and fig, much carbonation, well balanced, good Phatz (225), Paradise, Pennsylvania, USA Aug 1, 2006 This beer was absolutely something else. I am a sucker for a good Belgian Strong Dark Ale and this is no exception. Served on-tap at Zeno’s in State college.
Appearance: Plumb colored brown.
Smell: Sour ale with dark fruity scents and a brown sugar malt aroma.
Taste: Smooth easy and approachable. The flavors of dark fruits swirl around the palate with hints of orange peeking though the plum and dates. There is a nice hint of yeast and nutmeg as well. A bit of a pucker finish and voila.
Mouthfeel: The flavor has a nice balance of tart (hop) spices and sweet sugars. The mouthfeel is confusingly crispy in feel though so smooth.
Drinkability: MMM. You can just park the *truck* at my house I’ll drink it all. Fantastic!
Hope this is helpful.
Cheers!
Lowe1983 (1029), Fairborn, Ohio, USA Jul 29, 2006 #200 Pours a brown/dark amber color with a thick tan head. Aroma is of citrus, bubblegum, yeast, and hops. Light on the palate with a flavor pretty much the same. Some earthy spices on the finish. A pretty excellent brew. Very well blended with the hops, malts, and yeast together. NosirIwont (1162), Aalborg Vestby, Denmark Jul 22, 2006 Bottle. Pours dark amber with an off-white head. Malty aroma. Slightly yeasty. Hops appears as it warms. Malty, yeasty flavour. Spicy yeasty and slightly bitter finish with notes of wood. Too much carbonation. 18-07-06. bridge (659), Sydney, Australia Jul 7, 2006 Opaque brown amber with a frothy beige head that didn’t last but left some lace. Some pineapple and bugglegum notes in the aroma, and a bit of dust. On tasting there was a localised bitterness at the back of the tongue, which seemed a little excessive for the style. Quite like a wine in the mouth. A good solid brune without being special. tenghave (402), Taastrup, Denmark Jul 6, 2006 Orange-brun ufiltreret øl.
Meget holdbart hvis skum.
Duften er krydret, alcoho og sødlig. Meget karakteristisk for en abbey
Smagen erfyldig, perlende.let sødlig, og varm og rund.
Eftersmagen er bitter.
gatorbeer (148), Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, USA Jul 4, 2006 Pours an amber-brown with a medium head. Aroma of brown sugar with floral notes. Taste is well balanced. Hoppy, malty and yeasty all at the same time. A little bitter and a little sweet without being too much of either. DocLock (4648), Lower Pottsgrove, Pennsylvania, USA Jun 20, 2006 Bottle from Super Saver. Turbid brown pour with a 2-finger off-white clingy head. Complex aroma of caramel malts, brown sugar, yeasty spices, toffee, some nuts, cabernet, funky peaty notes, and port. The flavor was on the tart side, with a firm caramel malty and brown sugar type base, plus some cabernet, nuts, peaty yeasty funk, and hopcitrus. I enjoyed this one a great deal.
