eve (240), Iowa City, Iowa, USA Jan 25, 2005 Big exuberant cream-colored head, falls down in sculptural swoops leaving gorgeous hive-like lace, pours a clear red-bronze with a dizzying aroma of yeast, raisins, spice. Flavor suggests soft grapes, cloves, nutmeg. Smooth and lovely at room temperature. An inspiring and drinkable beer to sip (and gaze at) while writing about Belgian beer. Sammy (3934), Toronto, Ontario, Canada Jan 19, 2005 Foamy tan head, fragrant natural fruity yeast, lace bubbles. Chocolate malts, vanilla (aaah yum). A bit bitterness and sourness on the finish balanced with malts. Light mouthfeel and smooth and drinkable. Styles (1653), Lincoln Park, Michigan, USA Jan 15, 2005 Medium brown color with a big white head. Very yeasty fruit aroma. Flavor was the same with some spices. A little turned of by the carbonation. 11026 (1799), Alabama, USA Jan 15, 2005 Hmm, an abbey dubble listed as a brown ale served at a porter tasting. I am really confused now. As a brown ale this doesn’t really fit the mold, as a dubble this is pretty good! Light brown color. Nice brownish head. Lots of yeast and well carbonated. Very noticable clove aroma and flavors. Again, good as a dubble. Pailhead (2572), Allen Park, Michigan, USA Jan 13, 2005 Bottle: #500 - Rather fruity aroma of apple and raisin. Pours and orangish-brown with a white head. Fruity flavors with apple and a light sourness in the finish. Has a Unibroue taste to it. AustinMilbarge (681), Denver, Colorado, USA Jan 13, 2005 There was a definite yeasty, Belgian fell to this one. Maybe that was odd because it was served at a porter tasting. Definite carbonated crispness. TBone (6675), Pori, Finland Jan 9, 2005 Bottled 33cl (BB 12/2006)
Hazy dark nutbrown, good brown head. Strong sticky aroma of licorice, anise, yeast and hops. Earthy tones too. Soft malty palate. Warming flavor with licorice, raisins and plums. Oily aftertaste which brings some hops. Mouthfeel itself is quite thin, but otherwise enjoyable brew. Dorqui (1353), Brescia, Italy Dec 27, 2004 Foam creamy much supporter. Color brown much dark one, but not too much veiled. Rich, binding scent densp. Notes of toasted with a warm flavor and wrapping. Much persitent. Decidedly good.
