Previously 7.7% ABV. Grottenbier Flemish Ale is a unique ale produced by one of the great Flanders breweries. Pale golden in color with a white, dense foam and a flavor that is soft, creamy and slightly herbal. Aging will reveal new layers of flavor, but Grottenbier Flemish Ale is eminently drinkable anytime! A unique Belgian classic from the mind of Pierre Celis.

0.75l corked bottle from Etre. This is a cloudy dark red-plum-brown beer with a impressive big and lasting off-white fluffy top. The nose is light Belgian with dark candied sugar, yeast, candied red apples, a bit on the sweet side perhaps, but quite nice. Itís above average on the carbonation carbonation level and it has a light oily - almost a bit thin mouthfeel. Not as sweet as the aroma suggested. Almost what is called dry actually and the taste itself is kinda dusty and dark nutty. Old plums and unsweetened figs. A little bit of dry chocolate paper with traces of both yeast and alcohol. Perhaps not the most sophisticated and complex beer Iíve ever had, but itís tasty and definitely nice. A bit of a alcohol sting in the finish and aftertaste. A full bottle perhaps a bit to much to keep it interesting all the way through. Should probably have shared this with someone. 05.06.2013

750 ml bottle corked and caged bottle, at home. Poured into a tulip glass. ABV 6.5% Opens with a loud pop. Beer has a beutiful deep ruby red colour, with continuous activity in the body. Really impessive colout. Big head, three fingers tall, light beige in colour and soapy. Low retention, collapses fast, but after that, half a finger of foam stays on the surface for quite long. Traces of lacing can be seen around the glass. Aroma of caramel, grapes, a little bit of sugar. Smells similar to a good wine. Taste is mildly sweet, at least at first. It follows very close the aroma, lots of grapes, some light dark fruits flavours, sugars, caramel malts. Frutiy aftertaste. Medium to thick body, soft carbonation. Overall very tasty beer.

750 ml bottle into tulip glass; 11/23/2009 dating on the bottom of the bottle(best before date?). Pours lightly hazy and cloudy golden orange color with a nice 2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty foamy lacing clings on the glass, with a moderate amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of pear, apple, grape, floral, pepper, clove, herbal, caramel, honey, biscuit, and herbal earthiness. Very nice aromas with good complexity and balance of fruity/spicy/floral notes with malt sweetness; and good strength. Taste of pear, apple, grape, floral, pepper, clove, herbal, caramel, honey, biscuit, and herbal earthiness. Lingering notes of light fruits, floral, pepper, herbal, light clove, caramel, honey, bread, and herbal earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Very nice balance and complexity of malt and fruity/spicy esters; with a good malt/spiciness balance and no cloying sweetness present after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a slick and lightly syrupy mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is very well hidden with hardly any warming noticed after the finish. Overall this is a damn nice Belgian strong pale. Very nice balance and complexity of fruity/spicy flavors with malt sweetness; and very smooth to sip on. This was probably quite old given the caramelized maltiness from age, but it held up very well. A very enjoyable offering.

A light golden ale with a frothy white head giving off great aroma of sours and fermentation. The clean smooth beer lets a lot of fermented fruit notes come through.

Bottle shared by swoopjones @ Bidwell. Cloudy medium tan, solid head with floaties. Nose is twangy malt, yeast, some undefined fruit & green apple notes. Flavor is much the same, but a bit stale. Twang increases in the finish, along with green apple character. Eh.

750 mL bottle served in tulip (1st of 7 from Grapeview Market- RIP)- poured a heavily turbid non transparent faded golden straw color, heavy carbonation, frothy off white head formed with minimal lacing. Aroma of yeast, straw, earth, yeast, and some grass. Hits the mouth with a low-medium body, malt is there but is very light, hearty various spice and dark fruit notes bombard you taste buds in the middle, finish continues with the spice notes as well as some dryness. Interesting take on the style, and good brew.

(Old BA rate - bottle) Poured with frothy, foamy white head with good retention. Lightly hazy orangey-yellow color thatís vibrant. Yeasty; orange and citrus aromas; some grassiness as well. A bit flowery; yeastiness comes in mildly; citrus fruit. Pretty nice. A bit chalky for me; very vibrant carbonation. Thinner body overall, though. Really drinkable, but basic
