Blond version only! Not produced since 2010.

Previously 7.7% ABV. Grottenbier Flemish Ale is a unique ale produced by one of the great Flanders breweries. Pale golden in color with a white, dense foam and a flavor that is soft, creamy and slightly herbal. Aging will reveal new layers of flavor, but Grottenbier Flemish Ale is eminently drinkable anytime! A unique Belgian classic from the mind of Pierre Celis.

Aroma is a sour yeast scent with faint fruit tones. Color is golden yellow with good carbonation and a tight white head. Taste is creamy and sour. Starting with a medium body it goes down with a creamy feel. Finish comes at of the creamy feel with a slight sweetness that turns sour and gives you flavor that reminds me a by of a White Ale, with hints of coriander and a little clove. After taste has a nice Belgian yeast fruit taste with a bitterness on the end. This is just an amazing brew it has a bright White Ale flavor with complex layers.

Bottle 75cl. Golden colour with a huge white head. Aroma of yeast, honey, caramel and a bit banana. Once again a masterpiece from Mr. Celis.

Carbonated like pop rocks, fizzing and crackling if I inhale through an open mouth with a quaff still on my tongue. Didnít taste really any sourness at all, the taste being dominated by caramel and yeast. Despite that, it doesnít feel heavy in the mouth and the xXxtreme carbonation makes me want to chug it like root beer. Head was good, lace florid and better than average, but who cares about such slow sipping pleasures when youíre drinking the ale version of soda pop or sparkling cider? Must buy more.

750 ml (yellow label). Great looking beer poured into a New Belgium goblet. Big, puffy white head on a gold body. Spicy peppery aroma with marshmallow and sweet cloves. Delectable. Light lemon and subtle brett mingles well with the soft pale malts. I can see this beer working well with a lot of different foods but spicy thai shrimp comes to mind.

750 ML Bottle-Cloudy golden color w/a moderate white head & great lacing. Sweet & sour aroma. Light fruity flavor, bananas, green apples, some clove, w/a bit of a sour bite to it-made you pucker up a little in a good way. Had some wheat or grass flavors, as well as bread dough & yeast. Multiple layers of flavor make this a very enjoyable brew. Classic Belgian, very fresh & flavorful, very drinkable now but Iím sure it would age quite well. A real winner, but not a surprise from this brewer, I donít think they could make a bad beer if they tried!!

Damn this is good. Hazy yellow color with a huge white head and constant lacing. Pear, lemon, nutmeg in the aroma. Flavor is initially sweet and full of of fruitiness (pear, banana, lemon, tangerine) with a bit of a yeast presence in the finish. Iím having trouble wrapping my brain on the scores people have been giving this one. I think itís fantastic. Drinkable but full bodied with just enough alcohol presence in there to give a decent buzz.

Labeled as "Pierre Celis Signature Selection" which I happened to stumble across at an unplanned stop. No idea of this beerís age, but I feel itís sat around long enough to develop a pleasant amount of complexity. To be honest this came across like a big bottle of tamed Orval, fairly funky with a touch of brett, dry and nicely intriguing. Golden, straw color with intense carbonation and a billowing, rocky white head that leaves thick, blanketing lacing. Peppery hops, spicy with funky fruits and must. You can smell the dryness and I swear it is very familiar to a 1 year Orval. Light and dry mouth feel with a mild tartness and a rather hot finish. Fruity peach and orange flavors coupled with honey. Spicy hops, biscuits and cream soda. Earthy with a touch of dried herbs. Tart, sweet and slightly bretty.

750ml bottle from whole foods in glover park. pours a cloudy gold, big white head that shows no signs of going anywhere soon. aroma (once it warms up) is bready, light citrus notes, coriander, a little belgian yeast funk. flavor is quite big: malty with a hint of caramel, then immediately puckering bitterness and some hints of toast. moderately heavy body, but the finish is quite pleasantly dry, and the whole thing only has a modicum of acidity, which is great. this is a big winner in my book.

750 ml bottle from Holiday Wine cellar. Honey golden with champagne bubbles and a big foamy head. Aroma of barn yard funk, fruit, and yeast. Bright tangy palate. Banana, honey, and slightly bready taste with some hay notes and a semi-dry finish. Decent overall.
