A light gold beer brewed with the ingredients of a lager, but most definitely an ale. Highly refreshing with a lovely subtle hop flavour and aroma, reminiscent of a pilsner.

Cask conditioned handpump Coal Hole London 05/07/13. A golden coloured beer with a tight white head and lace. Excuse my bad manners but this is an ill conceived beer really. Lemony notes but a weird sweetness. Quite plain in the mouth apart from an off-putting fartiness. Not special. One step beyond good in the wrong direction. Don’t select(er) this beer.

500ml bottle. Clear, deep golden colour with average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, white head. Cautious strawy aroma, a fruity touch of gooseberry. Taste is minmally strawy, hoppy overtones with a fruity touch of gooseberry. Suitable hop touch, otherwise cautious, anaemic, monotonous overall.

Bottle from B&M Canterbury and drunk at home. Clear orange gold colour with lasting thick white head. Not a great aroma. Better in the mouth with some citrus lemon and lime flavour. Finish is the best with some hop sting. Aroma is a little off putting. It’s ok. I’d drink a half of it for the finish. Definitely wouldn’t buy it again though.

Bottle. Pours a light gold colour with a thin white head, no real aroma as such, the taste is light and with some fruit, with a thin dry finish.

Beese (1099) - Watford, Hertfordshire, ENGLAND - JAN 30, 2014
Bottle from Tesco, Watford. Poured a clear, dark golden colour with a halo of white head. Incredibly light aroma, some pilsener malt and a weird hint of Vaseline. Similar lack of flavour; light grain and some peach-like sweetness. Watery on the palate with a hint of malt and caramel. If the aim was to brew an ale that tasted like a bland, mass-produced lager; they pretty much got it.

Appearance: Clear amber with finger thick ivory head. Aroma: Biscuit, pepper, citrus, herb/grass and hint of corn. Taste: low bitterness and sweetness with low/medium sourness and a slight saltiness. Palate: Smooth thick texture, light body, low carbonation, abrupt malty, peppery vegetal finish. Comments: Tasty, glass lace but nothing special.

500ml bottle. Light copper with a decent white head. Mild yeasty aroma. Flavour is quite sweet, mild grain, a little dank earthiness but not in a particularly unpleasant way. A little citrus. Not much bitterness. Reasonable alternative to a generic lager, but that’s all.
