3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: MAR 17, 2014 500 ml bottle (n° 293/1000) from Gruit brewpub, served in a snifter glass. Dark sunrise orange, quite clear, with a big, fluffy, forever lasting off-white head. Good lacing. Pungent and almost medicinal aroma: lots of leather and wood, french oak qualities, red berries, toasted toffee and light booze. Smooth and fruity in the mouth, light oxidation, with definitely a red wine sensation, tannic and slightly acidic. Sour black cherries and plums under spirit in the aftertaste. Quite complex and definitely a sipper, the alchool presence is there, but not overwhelming. Average to lively carbonation (which helps the drinkability a lot), medium body and oily texture. Not exactly fond of the aroma, but overall I think this is a well executed beer.
