3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Thanks Derek. An imperial pale, a British hopped up style. Cloudy with off-white bubbly, and lace. A bold malt aroma, and yeast. Unfiltered, as there is black sediment there. Average mouthfeel. Big on the hops.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Orange and peach colored body with a whiteh head. Sweet citrus and mandaring orange notes, very crisp on the tongue, very fruity but not candy-like, with a moderate bitterness, overall quite well placed on the tongue. Refreshing, balanced and very well made.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottled: Pours a slightly hazy orange copper with a thin, wispy-lacing white head. Aroma of sweet toasty caramel and some piny resiny hops. Body starts with a good amount of residual crystal malty sweetness and some piny bittering and flavor hops before a semi-crisp, bittersweet finish. Not as hop forward as a lot of IIPAs, but still quite flavorful.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at Grumpy Troll. Poured hazy, darker amber with a short cap of off-white head. The aroma picked up lots of deep, rich grapefruit, caramel, and grainy pine notes at its core along with some alcohol warmth. Sweet, spritzy grapefruit and pine bitterness stole the show in the flavor with caramel and grapefruit sweetness backing it up.. lengthy sweet, bitter, and warm finish left a fine impression. Grainy and heavier-bodied on the palate, leaving grapefruit bitterness and pine resin on the finish.. creamy middle. Nice one.

I actually didn’t even know it was a DIPA when I tried it. It is a pretty tame DIPA.

3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
Sampled from the tap at the brewpub. Pours a clear amber with a near white head that lasts throughout the beer and laces nicely. Aroma has a nice combo of grapefruit and pine with a grain backbone. Flavor begins with grapefruit that transitions to a bitter pine note with a bit of a light grain backing.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle:   Dirty caramel, quite thick, dark, moderate to large foamy off-white head, a few rings of lacing.   Nose is somewhat mealy and biscuity.   Does have a bit of a sweet citrus peel aspect.   on the tongue it is rather mealy.   While feeling heavy, it is not all that IPA related.   Heavy cereal notes, slight astringency, not enough hop flavors.   This one seem too much on the malt side versus on the hop side.   Not all that well balanced, needs more bitterness to counteract the heavy maltiness.   Too cereal oriented, to the point that its hard to drink, espepcially at 9% ABV.   This one comes across as a very rudimentary IIPA, without the sweet citrusy malt that most come to expect.   This one was certainly had to drink.   Not bad, but the astringent mealiness was too much.   Body and mouthfeel were moderate, ableit very sticky.   Finishes with this astringent mealy aspect that simply detracts from the beer.   This is one hard to drink 22oz IIPA from Grumpy Troll.
