2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 8/20
On draught at the brewpun in downtown Mt. Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a clear golden pale brew with a fast dissolving off-white head that dissipates nearly clean. Aroma of green vegetables, green bell peppers and (definitely) green jalapeno peppers. Taste is medium bodied, lightly carbonated with flavors of green bell peppers and jalapeno peppers without the hot chemical bite. The golden grain malt is will hidden under the green pepper flavor. Finish has a mild light bite with a lingering green pepper aftertaste. Luckily it is not an "in-yer-face" Crazy Ed’ Cave Creek Chili Beer wrath but still is an unusual novelty beer.

I appreciate risk-taking in beer and I think that this one paid off. Could have been a tad spicier but the jalapeno flavor distinctly comes through.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap at brewery, pours a hazy golden color with no head, the aroma is more of green peppers than jalapeno, the taste is more sweet than I was expecting with a hint of spice, this one was actually more refreshing that I was expecting.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Tab at brewpub. Pours hazy light gold. Aroma is unmistakably jalepeno that drowns out pretty much every thing else. Flavor is actually fairly subdued compared to what I was expecting with respect to pepper. I actually think this is pretty interesting/good when I’m in the right mood, although the underlying beer seems pretty weak. I’m waiting for someone to make one of these with a good base beer. Also, I wish it were a little more spicy, like Jaipur’s Jalepeno beer. That stuff is addictive.

2.9 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at the brewpub.
Pours a cloudy pale-straw yellow with pretty much no head. Aroma is nothing but jalapeño pepper. Flavor is also a big burst of jalapeño pepper without much else save a bare showing of malt. It’s not even particularly spicy-hot, it’s just... there. Lots of mild jalapeño is just there, not really doing anything but reminding you that this is a jalapeño beer. A good pepper beer is subtle and sneaks up on you. This one by contrast wallops you over the head with jalapeño, but it’s such a mild jalapeño that it’s like getting clobbered on the head with a foam bat like Stuart Smalley uses in his therapy sessions. This beer is as weird and annoying as Stuart Smalley is.

I was shocked to find out how good this beer was. I first tried it at the Great Taste of the Midwest beer festival in Madison WI and thought a jalapeno beer by definition was going to be quite nasty. I was pleasantly surprised.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Intense unmistakable jalapeno aroma...very unique. Hazy golden-bronze color. Relatively light bodied with a jalapeno juice finish. Light spiciness lingers in the aftertaste. Low enough in ABV for it to really work, though it certainly throws off the palate a bit. Well worth a try.

I had this at the Great Lakes Beer Fest in Racine, WI. This was the best beer at the fest hands down, very surprising. I’m not a fan of jalapenos at all and my friend asked me to try it. This beer is not spicy, the jalapeno is prevalent but not overpowering, great balance of ale and jalapeno at the finish. This beer made me want to take a day trip to middle of nowhere Wisconsin!

9/05/2009: Grumpy Troll Slow Eddie... Aroma: Smells like a cheese-stuff pepper! Appearance: Hazy gold color; white ring of foam on top. Flavor: Sweet cheesy pepper and cream cheese; a hint of jalapeno, not spicy though. Palate: Medium-light body. Overall: Decent; definitely tons better than Cave Creek Chili Beer!
Draught (ABV 3.7% / 8 IBUs) at The Grumpy Troll Brew Pub in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin. Rating #11 for this beer.

Golden pour with white head. Nice lacing. Malt with great pepper aroma. I thought it would be spicy but was happy to find out it was flavorful and smooth. I really enjoyed this.

LIght golden color with a dissipating white head. Aroma has a hint of pale malt with green and serrano peppers surrounding it. LIght and lightly biting on the tongue. Initial sweetness is escorted away with the pepper burn that builds with each quaff. Wish it regained some of the sweetness in the linger. A decent effort.
