3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
On tap at the brewpub. The body was hazy yellow with a white head. The aroma was classic light banana with some light clove. There was also some rising bread dough. The taste has some strong banana with some biscuits. There is also strong clove spice in the finish. Plenty of carbonation. The finish becomes tropical as it warms, almost like mango. Solid.

3.5 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Milky and murky white and yellow color. Nose of citrus, wheat, hay, oranges and other citrus notes. Heavy wheat on the palate, almost think and gritty, but also soft and mellow and smooth, creamy even, with a pretty typical wheat note and a secondary orange/lemon citrus note. Well made.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
On draught at the brewpub in Mt Horeb, Wisconsin. Pours a semi-clear pale blonde brew wth a fast dissolving white head that leaves behind a thin ring. Aroma of fruity character of banana, pears and some light bready malt. Taste is light to medium bodied, light carbonated with a semi-sweetflavor of banana esters, pears and some flowery hops. Finish is semi-sweet with a lingering pine aftertaste.

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
On tap at Grumpy Troll. Poured an almost clear pale golden with a light cap of white head. The aroma picked up spicy pepper and wheaty notes with some pine and citrus bitterness.. nice lemony undertones.. not what I expected here, but well-done. The flavor had lots of citrus and pine bitterness over a wheaty base.. long, lemony wheat finish.. sweet with a sharper spice and alcohol presence at the back. Light-medium bodied with ok balance. Not bad.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
draught at brew pub---- wow, way better than expected. The bartender was touting the witbier(traditionally my favorite) but this was clearly the winner of the 8 beer sampler we tasted. I taste the pear as most predominate fruit flavor. Gloden body. The pick of the litter at Grumpy troll.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Halfway through the sampler I came across this gem. Sort of like the Military Ridge Trail it is named after (which runs behind the brewpub and connects Madison to Dodgeville), it connected the lighter session beers with the heavier stuff that was to follow. As far as brewpubs go this may be one of the best hefes I have come across. I have had better bottled examples but even so this is right up there with the likes of Solstice Wheat. In fact it may be better simply because you don’t have to wait three years for it to be brewed again.
Aroma / Appearance - The cloudy yellow body was exactly what one would expect from a well made hefeweizen. The mild carbonation pushed ahead a thin foamy white head. Lemon shortbread, oranges and vanilla beans comprised a package of smells which was thick enough to stick in the nasal passages. While it might not be the sharpest example of the style (Kloster Weizen from Capitol comes to mind for that) it does a good enough job.
Flavor / Palate - Chewy peanut butter, oranges dipped in inexpensive (but quality) chocolate and banana bread play across the tongue. The chewy full mouthfeel leaves a pleasing aftertaste. This is filling for such an easy drinking beer. I agree with Blake on this one - it was a hidden gem worth further visits.
