COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Our cold-fermented beer with is smooth mouthfeel presents the benefits of prolonged chilled aging. Made in the style of the pre-prohibition beers of the USA, this lager is made with Pilsener malt, maize, noble hops and a slow cold fermentation make a truly refreshing and clean lager with broad appeal.

I gotta say I was really fired up to drink a commercial CAP, firstly because I’d never done so but mostly to see if my own attempts are on the right track (I think they are). It’s quite pale with light haze and OK head retention. There’s a slightly sweet, grainy corn aroma which I quite like, with some mild grassy herbal hop (thyme or rosemary I think.) It’s neither as malty or bitter as I was expecting, though it definitely would have a far lower OG than my own attempts. There’s some light peachy malt which becomes more prevalent as it warms and faint bitterness without much hop character. There’s also some kind of furry roughness. It’s nice stuff, and certainly well-brewed but it just didn’t have as much guts as I would have liked. And on a pedantic note I think this would technically be classed as a post-prohibition CAP on account of the relatively low alcohol content. NB. Poor English in the commercial description comes from the brewery, not me. I left it un-edited (not sure why.)

vanvenlo (852) - Glen Iris, AUSTRALIA - MAR 9, 2010
UPDATED: MAR 13, 2010 12-Nov-2006 (Grumpys Draft) - Low light sweet hop aroma. Yellow-amber colour, slight hazy, ordinary head and suds lacing. Starts ash/burnt with a funny fruit infected flavour. Finishes burnt and roasted malt and an unpleasant aftertaste. This ashy character seems to be in each of the 5 beers I tasted this day.
