"Gruut" is an ancient Flemish coin. In medieval Ghent, brewers used Gruuts to pay taxes on the richness of their brew. Gentse Stadsbrouwerij has revived this ancient tradition with Gruut Amber Ale. Enjoy it’s rich taste, deep copper color, and smooth-drink-ability.

Aroma van geroosterd mout. Donker amber van kleur, met dunne kraag. Medium zoet, licht bitter. Fruitig.

Brown/red amber appearance with beige/light brown head. First impression was a malty odor. Taste was more caramel than malty - less fruity. Light hoppy bitterness in the aftertaste. Light to medium taste. Quite tasty - liked it but prefer "Dikke Mathile"

Une ambrée assez peu complexe et à la bouche simple et un peu creuse, déception personnelle.

On tap at the brewery. Clear caramel coloured with an off-white head. Aroma dominated by caramel, with notes of malt and hints of herbs. Sweet and caramelly with a certain bitterness. Fairly tasty and quite okay.

330ml bottle [vriendelijke groet voor de Gruut aan bartlebier, dank je wel!]. Clear, deep, amber colour with small to average, frothy, half-way lasting, minimally lacing, off-white head. Dusty, yeasty aroma, caramel malty basis, a touch of red berries and their parings. Taste is minimally fruity with hints of red berries, minimally toasty caramel malty basis, a minimally soapy touch; super soft palate. Rather sweet, not much yeast action.

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. Pours clear lightish copper brown with airy off-white head. Clear aroma of malt and caramel, with notes of fruit and touches of hops and dust. Sweetish flavour of malt, caramel and fruit, with estery and dusty notes. Bitter touches of hops prevalent in the background. Lively carbonation. Bitter and estery flavour with some sweetish hints. Not bad.

Warka do 25.05.2014. Kolor bursztynowy, klarowne. Piana niska, szybko opada, ale pozostawia w miare gruba obraczke. W aromacie glownie pustka, troche karmelu, czerwonych owocow i przypraw, nie ma wad, ale malo intensywne. W odczuciu polwytrawne, wysoko wysycone, dosc ostre. W smaku juz troche sie dzieje, jest sporo czerwonych owocow w rodzaju truskawek, malin i wisni, sporo przypraw, lekki karmel, lekka rzeska kwasnosc. Goryczka niska, ziolowa.

Heldere donkere koperen kleur met een goede crème kraag. Ruikt beetje standaard, palmachtig, mout. Smaakt zoetig, beetje honing, kruiden. Tikkeltje bitter.

Copper color. Aroma of stale malts; spicy Belgian yeast makes it interesting. High carb. Not bad overall.

Alengrin (3019) - BELGIUM - JAN 3, 2015
Tasted from tap and from bottle. Pure and clear amber coloured beer with thin but sticky, off-white head. Lots of iron in the nose, along with caramel, walnut, redcurrant, tea leaves, apple peel; soft taste of dried fruits and red berries, nutty and caramelly malts, smooth and sweetish, gentle spicy accents, metallic feel, lightly bitterish finish. A decent and quenching session beer.
